Valpro Attorney Services takes Placer County work of every kind: summonses, subpoenas and every other legal document served on people and businesses, court filings at the Placer County Superior Court in person or by eFiling, and records pulled from the court. Roseville sits about 14 miles straight-line from our office at 1520 W El Camino Ave #125, Sacramento, CA 95833, so Placer is part of our home region.

Roseville is where most filings land
Most civil, family, probate and small claims business happens at the Hon. Howard G. Gibson Courthouse, 10820 Justice Center Drive in Roseville, home to Departments 30–44, the clerk's office and the Self-Help Center. It has a large free lot in front and a drop box near the information booth on the 1st floor.
Auburn's Historic Courthouse holds Departments 1–6 and its own clerk's office. The Tahoe Courthouse in Tahoe City is Department 14, with its own mailing address at P.O. Box 5669. Juvenile cases have a separate courthouse on B Avenue in Auburn, where the window closes from noon to 1:00 p.m.
One location catches people out. Department 50 is a temporary courtroom inside the Placer County Elections Office at 3715 Atherton Road in Rocklin, and the court posts a separate notice about its location and parking. Check it before a hearing there. The court's general mailing address is P.O. Box 619072, Roseville, CA 95661-9072. Source: Placer Superior Court locations pages, checked October 2026.
Small claims and self-help
Small claims cases are filed at the civil clerk's office, at either the Gibson Courthouse or the Historic Courthouse. The court's civil division page covers small claims, and its start packet says forms are available from the Self-Help Center or the clerk's counter. We did not find a dedicated small claims advisor page.
The Self-Help Center at Gibson takes appointments by phone, video or in person through the court's reservation system, under a services matrix effective July 6, 2026. If you're filing your own claim and need the other side served, we serve it and return the proof of service.
What are Placer County Superior Court's e-filing rules?
E-filing is mandatory for attorneys and optional for self-represented litigants in civil and family law cases, under Local Rule 10.27. Some documents can't go through e-filing, including documents that need personal service on a judicial officer and documents that need an original signature. The court publishes its list of approved electronic filing service providers (EFSPs). Source: placer.courts.ca.gov, checked October 2026.
The court's current local rules took effect January 1, 2026, and a draft set for January 1, 2027 is posted for comment. For a firm, that means most Placer civil filings move electronically, while originals and personally delivered papers still need a court runner. We handle both. See Court Filings for how a filing request works.
From Roseville to the lake
Placer County had 404,739 residents in the 2020 Census, and the Census Bureau estimated 442,081 for July 1, 2025. Most live in South Placer: Roseville (147,773), Rocklin (71,601) and Lincoln (49,757), plus Granite Bay, a Census-designated place rather than a city.
Up the hill, Auburn is the county seat, about 30 miles straight-line from our office, and Colfax is about 44. Past them, the county reaches the Lake Tahoe shoreline and the Tahoe Courthouse.
Those are very different service jobs. A Roseville apartment may need a unit number and a gate code. A foothill address off a private road may need directions. A Tahoe-side address is a long drive from the valley, and remote areas are subject to different timelines, so we confirm timing with you after the request comes in.
What helps us most in your Letter of Instruction:
- Every address you have, home and work, with unit or suite numbers.
- A physical description or photo of the person, if you have one.
- Good times to find them, and times to avoid.
- Gate codes, lobby instructions or access notes for rural parcels.
Placer County Sheriff civil unit
The sheriff also serves civil process. Search-engine text of the county's page lists the Placer County Sheriff's Office Civil Division at 2929 Richardson Drive, Auburn, CA 95603, open Mon–Fri 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., excluding county holidays. The county site blocked automated reading when we checked in October 2026, and the directory and fee schedule show different phone numbers. Confirm details on placer.ca.gov before you go.

A 2027 change to the follow-up mailing
When papers are left with an adult at a home or office, a copy still has to be mailed afterward. From January 1, 2027, that copy can go by first-class mail, Priority Mail with tracking or Certified Mail with a return receipt (Code of Civil Procedure § 415.20, as AB 747 rewrites it). Read what AB 747 changes for service of process.
