Placerville is a small city with a big ZIP Code. The city had 10,747 residents in the 2020 Census, but the 95667 ZIP Code area around it stretches far past the city limits into the foothills. That matters more for service than the city's size does, because most 95667 addresses aren't in Placerville at all.
Valpro Attorney Services handles Placerville work from our office at 1520 W El Camino Ave #125, Sacramento, CA 95833, about 38.5 miles away straight-line. We serve summonses, subpoenas and every other legal document on people and businesses, file with the El Dorado Superior Court, and pull court records. Start a Service Request or email the papers to Service@ValproAttorneyServices.com.
A 95667 address is usually outside the city
The Census Bureau's 2020 ZIP Code area for 95667 covers about 438 square kilometers of land. Placerville city takes up about 15 of them, roughly 3.5%. About 90% of the land in 95667 sits outside any Census-defined place.
The rest overlaps four unincorporated communities:
- Diamond Springs
- Camino
- Coloma
- Cold Springs
So a summons addressed to "Placerville, CA 95667" can be in town on Main Street or on a rural parcel miles out. Both get served. The Letter of Instruction just has to carry more detail for the second kind.
For a rural address in 95667, tell us:
- the street address plus any parcel or lot number on the papers
- whether the road is private, gated or shared, and any gate code you have
- a description of the house or the driveway if the number isn't posted
- a work address in town, if the person commutes
The more of that we get up front, the fewer trips it takes. Source: U.S. Census Bureau 2020 ZCTA to place relationship file, checked October 2026. ZIP Code areas are Census approximations of postal ZIP Codes.
Placerville courthouses and what they don't handle
Placerville is the county seat, and it has two courthouses. Neither one takes civil filings. That catches out filers who expect the county seat to have the civil clerk.
| Courthouse | Address | Case types listed by the court |
|---|---|---|
| Placerville Main Street Branch | 495 Main Street, Placerville, CA 95667 | Criminal (Departments 1, 2, 6 and 7) |
| Placerville Building C Branch | 2850 Fairlane Court, Suite 120, Placerville, CA 95667 | Family law, guardianships, juvenile dependency, restraining orders, appeals, collaborative courts (Departments 5 and 8) |
Civil, small claims and unlawful detainer cases from Placerville are filed at the Cameron Park Branch, 2927 Meder Road, Cameron Park, CA 95682, or at the South Lake Tahoe Branch for basin cases. Probate can be filed at Cameron Park, Building C or South Lake Tahoe. Clerk's offices are open 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and each branch lists an after-hours drop box.
Building C picked up Department 8 when the court closed its Fair Lane Branch, under a notice dated February 27, 2026. If an older case file names the Fair Lane Branch, Building C is where that work now sits. Source: eldorado.courts.ca.gov location, division and notice pages, checked October 2026.
Getting into the Main Street courthouse
The court says there's no parking behind the Main Street Branch. It points visitors to the city garage just west of the building and the city lots along Main Street. The building is secured, so you use the intercom at the rear door to get in. Wheelchair access is also at the rear.
Papers to serve in Placerville?
Serving papers on the court or its staff
The court publishes its own rules for this, and they're specific to Placerville addresses.
When the court, a judge or a staff member acting in an official capacity is named in a tort claim or a records action, service goes to the Court Executive Officer or a designee. The address is Court Administration, Placerville Building C Branch, 2850 Fairlane Court, Suite 110. A staff member subpoenaed as a third-party witness can be served in person or through the Court Executive Officer.
Child custody recommending counselors (CCRCs) have a separate rule. Under Local Rule 8.15.03, you first contact the Family Law Clerk's Office to confirm the counselor is available. Then the subpoena has to be served at least 10 calendar days before the hearing, with a deposit of $275 for each day the counselor must attend (Government Code §§ 68096.1 and 68097). Personal service can be on the counselor or on the clerk's office at Building C, Suite 120.
If your subpoena is for a counselor, send us the hearing date and the deposit details with the papers. We'll serve it at the right suite. Source: El Dorado Superior Court service of process page, checked October 2026.
The sheriff's Placerville civil office
The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office Civil Unit has its West Slope office at 200 Industrial Drive, Placerville, CA 95667, (530) 621-5665. It's open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and closed for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Packets go by email to edsocivil@eldoradosheriff.gov with Judicial Council form SER-001, and staff contact you about fees after they review it.
Two limits on the sheriff's side are worth knowing:
- It doesn't serve small claims paperwork unless a court-issued fee waiver comes with it.
- It won't accept legal process altered with correction fluid, tape or stickers.
The sheriff's page lists levies, evictions and attachments to property among the civil process it handles. For a summons, subpoena or small claims claim without a fee waiver, a process server is the usual choice. Source: El Dorado County Sheriff civil page, checked October 2026.
E-filing for Placerville cases
Placerville family law cases are filed at Building C, and attorneys there file electronically. Local Rule 7.08.00 says the court accepts only electronically filed documents in civil, family law, probate and small claims matters, through an approved electronic filing service provider. E-filing is mandatory for represented parties and justice partners. Self-represented parties are exempt.
The court adds that it can't accept electronic filings in other case types. So a criminal matter at Main Street still goes on paper. We handle both: eFiling for the case types that require it, and a court runner at the counter or drop box for the rest. See El Dorado County court filing and Court Filings.
