Yolo County is the closest county to our Sacramento office outside Sacramento County itself. Valpro Attorney Services serves summonses, subpoenas and every other legal document on people and businesses throughout Yolo, files at the courthouse in Woodland in person or by eFiling, and retrieves court records for your case.

One courthouse for every Yolo County case
Yolo is simpler than most counties: every case type goes to the same building, the Yolo Superior Court at 1000 Main Street in Woodland. Civil, family, small claims, probate, unlawful detainer, criminal, juvenile and traffic matters all start there. The main line is (530) 406-6700, and (530) 406-6704 reaches civil, probate, juvenile, small claims and family. Phones and the window are open 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., Mon–Fri.
The court lists loading and unloading zones on Main Street in front of the building and 20-minute zones on 5th and 6th Streets. Free public and ADA parking lots are at 525 6th Street and 625 6th Street. The Self-Help Center and Family Law Facilitator are on the 2nd floor, at (530) 406-6794, with walk-in hours Tuesday and Thursday 8:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m., plus appointments, workshops and live chat. E-filing at Yolo Superior Court
Yolo was early to require e-filing. Since August 17, 2020, the court has required it in civil, family and probate cases, and for subsequent filings in criminal, juvenile and DCSS cases. Self-represented parties are exempt, and the court encourages them to use File @ Home or e-filing. Source: yolo.courts.ca.gov, checked October 2026.
For a law firm, that means nearly every Yolo civil or family filing is electronic. Paper still matters for anything the court needs in original form or delivered in person, and for records you want pulled from the file. We handle eFiling and in-person filing, and our Court Filings page explains what to send.
The court's posted local rules are dated January 1, 2023. Check the court's rules page for newer notices before a filing deadline.
From Davis apartments to Delta farmland
Yolo County had 216,403 residents in the 2020 Census, and the Census Bureau estimates 224,410 for July 1, 2025. Most live in Davis (66,850), Woodland (61,032) and West Sacramento. The rest of the county is small towns and farm ground: Winters had 7,115 residents in 2020, and Clarksburg, in the Delta, had 402.
For an apartment, the unit number and the complex name decide whether the server reaches the right door. For a rural address outside Winters or Clarksburg, directions and gate access do the same job. Remote areas are subject to different timelines.
Broderick and Bryte are communities inside West Sacramento, right across the river and 2–3 miles from our office. They're closer to us than most Sacramento suburbs, yet a case filed there belongs to the Yolo court in Woodland. Keep that in mind when you pick the venue.
What to put in your Letter of Instruction
- The full street address with apartment or unit number, plus the complex name.
- A work address if you have one, so the server has a second place to try.
- Gate codes, ranch access or directions for rural Winters and Clarksburg addresses.
- Times the person is usually home, and any safety notes.
The Yolo County Sheriff's Civil Division
The sheriff also serves civil papers. The Yolo County Sheriff's Office Civil Division is at 140 Tony Diaz Drive, Woodland, CA 95776, with its public counter open Mon–Fri 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., excluding holidays. It asks for documents at least 10 days before the last day for service, and the sheriff's site lists (530) 666-8282 as its non-emergency number. Source: yolocountysheriff.com, checked October 2026.
Any adult who is not a party can serve a summons under Code of Civil Procedure § 414.10, so a private process server is the other option when that 10-day window is too long.

Eviction notices and the 2027 rules
Woodland, Davis and West Sacramento landlords take note: from January 1, 2027, an unlawful detainer complaint must state how the termination notice was served, with the date, time and location of service (Code of Civil Procedure § 1166(a)(5), as amended by AB 747). Our guide covers what AB 747 changes for service of process.
