Placer County's main courthouse is in Roseville

Placer County's seat is Auburn, but most of the court's day-to-day business happens in Roseville. The Hon. Howard G. Gibson Courthouse, at 10820 Justice Center Drive, Roseville, CA 95678, holds Departments 30–44 and these offices:

  • the Clerk's Office
  • the Self-Help Center
  • Jury Services
  • Family Court Services (mediation)
  • the Court Executive Office and Human Resources

The Judicial Council's Find My Court data lists civil, family, probate, small claims, unlawful detainer, criminal and traffic matters there. The main line is (916) 408-6000. The court's general mailing address is P.O. Box 619072, Roseville, CA 95661-9072.

Two other Placer court sites are in or near Roseville. The Superior Court Jail Courtroom, Department 20, is at 11801 Go For Broke Road and has no clerk services. Department 50 sits temporarily in the Placer County Elections Office at 3715 Atherton Rd. in Rocklin. Auburn has the Historic Courthouse, Departments 1–6 with a Clerk's Office, and the Juvenile Courthouse on B Avenue.

Filing at the Gibson Courthouse

The court's Main Courthouse FAQ describes the counter process. It helps to know it before a deadline day.

  • Hours. The Clerk's Office takes filings from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The building closes at 4:00 p.m. too.
  • Check-in. Inside the lobby, go to the kiosk under the two large wall monitors. Pick the area of law and take a ticket. Your number appears on the monitors with the window to go to.
  • Drop box. There's one near the information booth on the first floor.
  • Security. Everyone passes through weapons screening and bags are inspected. The court suggests allowing an extra 5–10 minutes.
  • Parking. A large free lot sits in front of the courthouse.
  • Files and copies. You can request up to 5 files and have up to 25 pages copied per day. Files stored off site can take 10–14 days to come back, and private copiers aren't allowed.

If you need more files or pages than the daily limit allows, send the list to us as a document retrieval request. See Placer County court filing for how we handle Placer filings.

E-filing is mandatory for attorneys in Placer County

Under Placer Local Rule 10.27, eFiling is mandatory for attorneys and optional for self-represented litigants in civil and family law cases. The civil category on the court's eFiling page includes general civil, small claims, probate and mental health matters. The court publishes a list of approved e-filing service providers.

Some documents are exempt: those that require personal service on a judicial officer, and those that need an original certification or signature where an electronic signature isn't permitted by law. Those still go to the counter, and we can take them there.

For a Roseville law office, that usually means the pleadings go by eFiling and the summons goes out for service. One Service Request can cover both. Our post on same-day court filing explains how tight deadlines are handled.

Papers to serve in Roseville?

Help for people handling their own Roseville case

The Self-Help Center at the Gibson Courthouse works with self-represented litigants, mostly on family law, child support, evictions, small claims, guardianships and restraining orders. Its services are free. It can't help people who have an attorney, except for settlement services.

In-person help is at the designated clerk's windows on the first floor, Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Limited 20-minute walk-in slots run from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m., with a "Self Help Center" ticket from the lobby kiosk. Prescheduled 20-minute appointments run 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. and 1:00–4:00 p.m., and phone and video appointments are booked online. Once your small claims or eviction papers are filed, they still have to be served by someone who isn't a party. That's where we come in.

Roseville sits on the county line

Roseville's southern edge is the Sacramento County line, so its nearest neighbors are split between two courts. Distances are straight-line between city centers.

A party living in Citrus Heights isn't a Placer County resident, even if they work in Roseville. Where they live and where the dispute arose can decide venue, so confirm the county before you file. We serve on both sides of the line, at home or at work. See every Placer city on the Placer County page, and the Sacramento side on the Sacramento County page.

What to send for a Roseville service

A street address alone often isn't enough for an apartment community, a gated subdivision or an office park. Put these in the request:

  1. The documents. Upload them on the Service Request, up to 5 PDFs, and add your Billing Reference.
  2. The exact party. A person's full name, or a business's exact name and its agent for service of process. Our guide to serving corporations shows how to find the agent on bizfile Online.
  3. Every address. Include the unit or suite number, and the building letter for complexes.
  4. Access notes. In the Letter of Instruction, add gate or call-box codes, the best days and hours, and a description or photo.

Pick Rush or Standard. A filing deadline tomorrow is a Rush, and a call to 855-582-5776 after you submit lets us confirm it. Each request gets a confirmation email, and every update comes in that thread. We make no guarantees for service.

Roseville ZIP Code areas

Three Census ZIP Code areas overlap the city: 95661, 95678 and 95747. Each also reaches past the city limits into unincorporated Placer County. A Roseville mailing address can belong to a home outside the city, but the court is the same: Placer Superior Court.

When the Roseville address doesn't work

If the first address fails, tell us what you know: a former address, an employer, a phone number, a relative. Skip tracing looks for a current address, and once you approve it, the papers go back out for service. Our post on how to find a defendant in California covers what information helps most.

Roseville process server questions

Not listed here? Call 855-582-5776 during business hours, Mon–Fri 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m.

Is the Placer County courthouse in Roseville or Auburn?

Both, but the main one is in Roseville. The Hon. Howard G. Gibson Courthouse at 10820 Justice Center Drive holds Departments 30–44, the Clerk's Office and the Self-Help Center. Auburn has the Historic Courthouse on Maple Street and the Juvenile Courthouse. Source: placer.courts.ca.gov, checked October 2026.

What time does the Gibson Courthouse clerk close?

4:00 p.m. The Clerk's Office takes filings from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and the building keeps the same hours. A drop box sits near the information booth on the first floor. Source: placer.courts.ca.gov hours page and Main Courthouse FAQ, checked October 2026.

Does a Roseville attorney have to e-file?

In civil and family law cases, yes. Placer Local Rule 10.27 makes eFiling mandatory for attorneys and optional for self-represented litigants. Documents that need personal service on a judicial officer, or an original signature where an electronic one isn't allowed, are exempt. Source: placer.courts.ca.gov, checked October 2026.

My defendant lives in Antelope. Is that Placer County?

No. Antelope, Citrus Heights and Foothill Farms are in Sacramento County, even though they border Roseville. That can change which superior court the case belongs in, so check venue before filing. We serve on either side of the line.

How many case files can I look at in one visit?

The Gibson Courthouse lets you request up to 5 files a day and have up to 25 pages copied a day. Files stored off site can take 10–14 days to arrive, so call (916) 408-6000 first. Private copiers aren't allowed. We can pull and copy records for you. Source: Main Courthouse FAQ, checked October 2026.

Can you serve a Roseville business?

Yes. Look up the company on the Secretary of State's bizfile Online and send us its agent for service of process with the papers. If the agent's address is outside Roseville, we serve it there. Our serving corporations guide covers the other methods.
