Our goal
We aim for valproattorneyservices.com to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. WCAG is the W3C's standard for making websites usable by people with disabilities, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader or screen magnification.
This statement describes how the site was built, based on our own review of its design and code. It isn't the result of an outside audit.
What we've built in
Keyboard and focus
- A "Skip to main content" link is the first thing you reach with the Tab key.
- Links, buttons, menus and form fields are standard controls that work with a keyboard.
- Every control shows a visible focus ring when you reach it with the keyboard, including in Windows High Contrast mode.
Color and contrast
- Body text is near-black on white, at a contrast ratio of about 17:1. The WCAG AA minimum is 4.5:1.
- Our maroon buttons carry white text at about 11:1.
- Every form field has a border or underline that reaches at least 3:1 against the page, so you can see where to type.
- The selected Rush or Standard option is outlined in dark ink, so it doesn't rely on a shade of color.
- Links in text are underlined, so they don't rely on color alone.
Images and structure
- Photos have text descriptions (alt text). Decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Each page has one main heading, and headings follow in order.
- Pages declare English as their language, so screen readers read them in the right language.
The Service Request form
- Every field has a visible label.
- Error messages appear next to the field they belong to and are linked to it for screen readers.
- When you send the form with errors, a summary of them receives focus so you can go straight to each one.
- Screen readers announce when a file finishes uploading, fails or is removed.
- Form fields and buttons are at least 44 pixels tall, so they're easy to tap.
Motion
The site turns off its animations, including the sliding of the reviews row, when your device is set to reduce motion.
Known limits
- Upload time limit. An upload session lasts 2 hours. If the form stays open longer, your typed answers stay in place, but your PDFs need to be added again.
- Bot check. The form runs Cloudflare Turnstile to block automated spam. It usually needs nothing from you. If it asks for an action you can't complete, call or email us and we'll take your request that way.
- Documents from other sources. Court forms, court records and documents you upload come from courts and other parties. We can't make them accessible.
- Other websites. Links to courts, Google Maps and other sites lead to pages we don't control.
We keep working on the site and will update this statement as we fix problems.
