Valpro Attorney Services delivers summonses, complaints, subpoenas, eviction notices, family law papers and small claims to people and businesses in Amador City. The town sits on Highway 49 in the Amador County foothills, between Sutter Creek to the south and Plymouth to the north. It's tiny: the 2020 Census counted 200 residents, and the city covers about 0.31 square miles of land.
Amador City requests are handled from our Sacramento office, about 39 miles west in a straight line. You send the papers online, and you can get each update by email.
A real city on a very small map
Amador City isn't an unincorporated community. It's a general law city, incorporated on June 2, 1915, with a city council, a city clerk and its own municipal code. That matters in two situations: when a city ordinance or permit is part of the dispute, and when the city itself is a party. Everything else about local government outside the city line, from roads to permits, belongs to Amador County.
Most "Amador City, CA 95601" addresses are outside the city. The Census Bureau's 2020 ZCTA to place relationship file splits ZIP Code area 95601, which covers about 2.06 square miles of land, like this:
| Part of ZIP Code area 95601 | Share of the land |
|---|---|
| Amador City (incorporated city) | About 15% |
| Unincorporated Amador County | About 85% |
All of Amador City falls inside 95601. ZIP Code areas only approximate postal ZIP Codes, but the point holds: an address with this ZIP Code can be on Main Street in town or on a county road outside the limits. Both are in Amador County, so the courthouse is the same either way.
Every Amador City case goes to Jackson
There's no courthouse in Amador City. The Amador Superior Court files and hears all of its case types in one building, the Amador Courthouse at 500 Argonaut Lane, Jackson, about 4.8 miles south of town in a straight line. The court's location page lists civil, unlawful detainer, small claims, family law, probate, guardianships and conservatorships, restraining orders, name changes, juvenile, criminal, traffic, CARE Court and appeals.
The court's pages don't agree on clerk hours. The courthouse page gives 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for the clerk's office and phones. The Civil and Small Claims pages say the building is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the clerk answers the phone from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Plan any counter filing for the middle of the day.
After hours, Local Rule 11.22 governs the drop box. A document is treated as filed on the day it's deposited only if it carries the court's date and time stamp from before 5:00 p.m. The person depositing it has to stamp it first, and include a copy to conform plus a self-addressed stamped envelope for its return. If a document isn't appropriate for filing, it comes back.
E-filing opened in Amador on September 14, 2026 for civil and small claims, and it's optional. Our Amador County court filing service handles counter, drop box or electronic filing, whichever suits the case.
Two local forms that travel with a new complaint
Amador's local rules add paper to the first service in a civil case. Leave either one out and the defendant's set is incomplete.
- Notice of Inclusion in Delay Reduction Program (Local Rule 8.04). The clerk issues it when the complaint is filed, and the rule says it must be served with the complaint. Pleadings are then served and filed under California Rules of Court, rule 3.110, which sets the time limits for serving the complaint and filing proof of service.
- Case Intake Sheet (Local Rule 11.20). In each civil and family law matter, the plaintiff submits a Case Intake Sheet with the complaint and serves a blank copy with the summons and complaint. The defendant fills one out when filing a responsive pleading.
When you upload an Amador City complaint, include the conformed summons, the complaint, the delay reduction notice and the blank intake sheet in the same set. Name each person to be served exactly as the caption does.
Proof-of-service deadlines in the Amador local rules
Several Amador rules turn on when the proof of service reaches the clerk. Here are the ones that come up most on a process server's jobs:
| Matter | Local rule | When proof of service is due |
|---|---|---|
| Civil law and motion | Rule 11.27(C) | 5 court days before the hearing, unless already filed; otherwise the matter may be dropped from calendar |
| Small claims | Rule 11.31 | At least 5 calendar days before the hearing, filed in the Clerk's Office, or the case may be dismissed without prejudice |
| Unlawful detainer | Rule 11.30 | The court dismisses without prejudice, without notice, if no proof of service is filed within 60 days of filing |
| Family law requests for order | Rule 13.04 | If service isn't completed by the date the law or the order sets, the matter is dropped and new papers are needed to reset it |
The practical lesson is the same for all four. Give us the hearing date with the Service Request, and leave room between the last attempt and the filing deadline. Our proof of service guide explains which form fits each kind of service.
Papers to serve in Amador City?
Evictions in Amador City
An Amador City eviction is filed in Jackson like any other Amador case. The landlord's summons and complaint have to reach each tenant through a method the Code of Civil Procedure allows, and a non-party adult does the delivering.
Two timing points shape these jobs. Under the Judicial Council's self-help guide, a tenant has 10 court days after personal service to file an Answer. Some Amador court pages still carry older figures, so rely on the statewide rule. And under Local Rule 11.30, an unlawful detainer with no proof of service filed within 60 days is dismissed without notice.
For a rental in or near Amador City, send the names of every adult occupant, any unit or cottage designation, and whether the property has more than one structure on the parcel. If the tenant can't be found for personal delivery, CCP § 415.45 allows posting and mailing an eviction summons only with a court order, so the attempts need to be well documented.
Small claims for Amador City residents
California's small claims limit is $12,500 for individuals, according to the Judicial Council's self-help site. The Amador court's own small claims page still shows lower amounts from before the change, so check the statewide figure before filing.
Small claims papers have two service deadlines to respect:
- State law. The self-help guide says the claim must be delivered at least 15 days before the court date, or 20 days if the defendant is served in a different county.
- The local rule. Local Rule 11.31 says the plaintiff files the proof of service in the Clerk's Office at least 5 calendar days before the hearing.
Put together, a small claims defendant in Amador City should be served well ahead of the hearing, with the proof back to Jackson in time. Our guide to who can serve papers in California covers who may deliver a Plaintiff's Claim.
Serving the City of Amador City
When the city government is the defendant, Code of Civil Procedure section 416.50 controls. A public entity is served by delivering the summons and complaint to its clerk, secretary, president, presiding officer or other head of its governing body.
The city's own contact page gives the details a server needs:
- City Hall: the Old City Hall/Firehouse building, 14203 Main Street (Old Highway 49).
- Office hours: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
- Mailing address: P.O. Box 200, Amador City, CA 95601.
- Clerk email: city.clerk@amador-city.com.
City Hall keeps three short mornings a week, so a Service Request for the city should arrive early enough to fit them. Before a damages suit, a claim against a public entity usually has to be presented to it first under the Government Claims Act, and the city posts a claim form on its website. That's a legal question for your attorney, and we serve what you send.
Tentative rulings on Amador civil motions
If the papers being served are a noticed motion or demurrer, Local Rule 4.03(D) requires specific notice language. It tells the other side the court will post a tentative ruling by 2:00 p.m. the court day before the hearing, by phone or on the court's website. A party who wants to contest it must notify the court and opposing counsel by telephone by 4:00 p.m. that day. Without that notice, no hearing is held and the tentative ruling takes effect.
We don't draft motions, but a notice missing that paragraph is worth catching before service rather than after.
Finding people in and around Amador City
Inside the city, the main thoroughfare is Main Street, the old alignment of Highway 49. Outside the limits, 95601 addresses are on county land. On the Service Request, include:
- The exact street address, not the P.O. Box or a business name alone.
- A workplace, such as a job in Sutter Creek, Jackson or Plymouth.
- A description: vehicle, house color, or a photo.
- Best times you know the person is home.
AB 747 changes substituted service on January 1, 2027. From then, three good-faith attempts at personal delivery on 3 different days at 3 different times show reasonable diligence for substituted service (CCP § 415.20(b)(2)). Our AB 747 guide explains the rest. If the person has left town, skip tracing can look for a newer address, and a company is usually served through its agent; see serving corporations.
