A Lake Elsinore case can end up in any of five courthouses, and none of them is in Lake Elsinore. The Riverside Superior Court decides where each case type is filed by ZIP Code, through administrative orders for civil, family law and probate matters. For Lake Elsinore's ZIP Codes, those orders point to Corona, Menifee, Murrieta and two different buildings on Main Street in Riverside. Getting the courthouse right matters because the proof of service has to reach the correct file.

Lake Elsinore requests are handled from our Sacramento office, about 412 miles north, and the attempts are made at the local address by an assigned server.

The five courthouses

The table follows the court's current orders for ZIP Codes 92530, 92531 and 92532. The civil order took effect August 1, 2026, the family law order July 8, 2024, and the probate order December 23, 2024. Miles are straight-line distances from the city's Census center point.

The closest building, Menifee, takes the family docket and a group of miscellaneous petitions but not ordinary civil suits or evictions. The court's locations page lists clerk phone hours of 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, at (951) 777-3147, and drop boxes that accept documents until 4:00 p.m.

Why Lake Elsinore probate goes to Riverside

Lake Elsinore and Wildomar sit side by side, 6.5 miles apart, and follow the same civil order almost row for row: unlimited civil to Riverside, limited civil, evictions and small claims to Corona, civil harassment to Murrieta. Probate is where they split. The probate order places 92530 through 92532 in its Western Region, served by the Riverside Historic Courthouse, while Wildomar's 92595 is in the Mid-County Region, served by the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta.

So an estate for a house on one side of the city line is filed in Riverside, and one for a house a few blocks away in Wildomar is filed in Murrieta. Mental health matters under the Welfare and Institutions Code go to Riverside Historic from everywhere in the county. Murrieta, 11.5 miles south, follows the Mid-County probate column like Wildomar.

Three ZIP Codes, and one belongs to Perris

The Census Bureau's 2020 ZCTA to place relationship file splits the city's land like this:

  • 92530, about 54% of the city. Only about 27% of this ZIP Code area is inside Lake Elsinore. About 11% is the Lakeland Village census-designated place, and roughly 61% lies outside any city or named community.
  • 92532, about 29% of the city. Roughly 73% of this area is in Lake Elsinore. About 9% is the Warm Springs census-designated place, a sliver is Canyon Lake, and about 17% is outside any named place.
  • 92570, about 16% of the city. This is mainly a Perris-area ZIP Code. Only about 6% of it falls inside Lake Elsinore, alongside Perris, Mead Valley, Lake Mathews, Good Hope and Meadowbrook.

That last one has a filing consequence. The court's orders list 92570 in the Perris row. For that row, limited civil cases, evictions, small claims, civil restraining orders, name changes and the miscellaneous petitions go to the Moreno Valley Courthouse at 13800 Heacock Street, Building D201. Family law goes to the Riverside family court at 4175 Main Street. Unlimited civil and probate still go to Riverside Historic. If a Lake Elsinore address carries 92570, read the order or call the clerk before filing. The Census also counts about 5.3 square miles of water inside city limits, so a waterfront address can sit in any of these areas.

Before a server goes out

A Lake Elsinore address can be a tract home, an apartment, a condominium or a parcel on the unincorporated edge of the ZIP Code. Instructions that help the first attempt count:

  1. Exact unit and building. Large complexes reuse a street number for several buildings.
  2. Gate details. For a gated community, the code or the management office that controls it.
  3. Hillside or rural access. For addresses in the unincorporated parts of 92530, whether the road is private, gated or unpaved.
  4. Work schedule. If the person commutes toward Corona, Riverside or Orange County, say when they leave and get home.
  5. Photo and vehicle. Anything that helps confirm the right person.

Substituted service, leaving papers with a competent adult at the home and mailing a copy, rests on reasonable diligence first (CCP § 415.20(b)). From January 1, 2027, three attempts at personal delivery on three different days at three different times of day show that diligence. Our AB 747 guide explains the change. We make no guarantees for service.

Papers to serve in Lake Elsinore?

Lake Elsinore evictions in Corona

Every unlawful detainer from Lake Elsinore's 92530 to 92532 is filed at the Corona Courthouse, whether the case is limited or unlimited. That's a change from the usual pattern, where an unlimited case would follow unlimited civil to Riverside. The civil order's eviction section says so expressly.

Once the tenant is personally served, they have 10 court days to file an answer, according to the California Courts Self-Help Guide. If the tenant avoids service, a landlord can ask the court to allow posting the summons at the property and mailing a copy (CCP § 415.45), which needs a record of real attempts.

Small claims at the Corona Courthouse

Lake Elsinore small claims cases are filed in Corona too. A plaintiff can't serve their own claim. An adult who isn't a party can, and the server signs a proof of service on form SC-104. The defendant must be served at least 15 days before the hearing if they live in Riverside County, or 20 days if they live elsewhere (CCP § 116.340). If the defendant has moved to Canyon Lake, Menifee or Murrieta, the case still stays in Corona, and the server goes wherever the defendant now lives.

Family cases at the Menifee Justice Center

Divorce, legal separation, custody and parentage cases from Lake Elsinore's 92530 to 92532 are filed in Menifee, the closest of the five buildings. The court's Menifee page lists nine departments across the second and third floors, M201 through M205 and M301 through M304, and a drop box at the building until 4:00 p.m.

The respondent in a family case has 30 days after service to file a response, so the service date sets the calendar. The proof is usually filed on form FL-115. If the other party has moved to another county, they can be served there, and the case stays in Menifee. Send a workplace address too if you have one. A server who can try both home and work has more chances to complete service before a hearing on custody or support.

Suing or serving the City of Lake Elsinore

When the city government is the party, the summons is delivered to its clerk, secretary, president, presiding officer or other head of its governing body (CCP § 416.50). For a city, that usually means the city clerk. A damages claim against a city generally has to go through the government claim process before a lawsuit, so check that step with counsel. Name the official in your instructions, and the proof will record who accepted the papers and when.

Restraining orders, name changes and debtor exams

These smaller matters each have their own courthouse. Civil restraining order petitions under CCP §§ 527.6, 527.7 and 527.8, which include civil harassment and workplace violence, are filed at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta. Name and gender change petitions go to Menifee. So do applications to examine a judgment debtor, and the order to appear has to be personally served on the debtor at least 10 days before the examination (CCP § 708.110(d)). Upload the order with the hearing date so the server has the full window to work with.

Filing at the Riverside Historic Courthouse

Two kinds of Lake Elsinore matters, unlimited civil suits and probate, are filed at 4050 Main Street in downtown Riverside. The court's page for the building lists civil and probate as the matters served and building hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Anyone walking papers in should know that the Main Street entry isn't wheelchair accessible; the ramps are on Tenth Street and Eleventh Street. Street parking downtown is metered, and the page names public garages at 3535 12th Street, 4090 Lemon Street and 3964 Orange Street.

For most attorney filers the trip isn't needed, since civil documents can be e-filed. Probate filers and anyone with documents exempt from eFiling can use the drop box until 4:00 p.m. If you'd rather not deal with either, we can handle the Riverside filing as part of the same Service Request.

Riverside civil filing and remote hearings

The court's civil eFiling page says Local Rule 3118 makes eFiling mandatory for parties with lawyers and optional for self-represented litigants in civil cases. The court uses Zoom for remote appearances, strongly encourages them for non-evidentiary civil hearings, and sets the notice steps in Local Rule 3132, including notice to opposing parties before the hearing. Our Riverside County court filing page covers filing and service on one request.

Companies with Lake Elsinore locations

A corporation or LLC is served through its registered agent for service of process, found on the Secretary of State's bizfile Online. A Lake Elsinore shop or warehouse often isn't that address. Our serving corporations page explains each method. If an address has gone stale, skip tracing can find a newer one.

Not listed here? Call 855-582-5776 during business hours, Mon–Fri 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m.

Where do I file an eviction for a Lake Elsinore rental?

At the Corona Courthouse, 505 S. Buena Vista, Room 201, Corona. The Riverside court's Where to File Civil Documents order, effective August 1, 2026, lists ZIP Codes 92530, 92531 and 92532 under Corona for all unlawful detainers, including ones large enough to be unlimited cases. Corona is about 19 miles from central Lake Elsinore in a straight line.

Is a Lake Elsinore probate case filed in Murrieta like Wildomar's?

No. The court's probate order, effective December 23, 2024, puts ZIP Codes 92530 through 92532 in its Western Region, so Lake Elsinore estates, guardianships and conservatorships are filed at the Probate Division of the Riverside Historic Courthouse, 4050 Main Street, Riverside. Wildomar's 92595 is in the Mid-County Region, which files at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta.

Where is a Lake Elsinore divorce filed?

At the Menifee Justice Center, 27401 Menifee Center Drive, about 9 miles east. The family law order effective July 8, 2024 lists Lake Elsinore's 92530, 92531 and 92532 in the Mid-County Region. Adoptions and freedom from parental custody petitions for those ZIP Codes go to Menifee too.

A Lake Elsinore address uses ZIP Code 92570. Does the same court apply?

Not necessarily. The court's orders assign courthouses by ZIP Code, and 92570 sits in the Perris row. That row sends limited civil cases, evictions, small claims and civil restraining orders to the Moreno Valley Courthouse, and family law to the Riverside family court on Main Street. Census figures put about 16% of the city's land in 92570, so check the row before you file.

Where do I ask for a civil harassment restraining order against a Lake Elsinore neighbor?

At the Southwest Justice Center, 30755-D Auld Road, Murrieta. The civil order lists Lake Elsinore ZIP Codes there for petitions under CCP §§ 527.6, 527.7 and 527.8. The person to be restrained still has to be served with the petition and any temporary order before the hearing.

When can I reach the Riverside court clerk by phone?

The court's locations page lists clerk phone hours of 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, at (951) 777-3147. Drop boxes at its courthouses take documents until 4:00 p.m., and anything left later is processed the next court day.

How do I start a Lake Elsinore request?
