Corona has a working courthouse inside the city, about 1.3 miles from its Census center point in a straight line. The Corona Courthouse lists the matters it serves as small claims, unlawful detainers, civil and traffic. Under Riverside Superior Court's current civil filing order, it is where most everyday Corona litigation starts, from a landlord's eviction to a collection case under $35,000.
Valpro Attorney Services handles Corona Service Requests from our Sacramento office, 394.5 miles away in a straight line. The papers are served at the Corona address, and nobody has to visit an office: they come in through the Service Request form and the signed proof goes back to you.
What the Corona Courthouse handles for Corona addresses
Presiding Judge Jacqueline C. Jackson signed the current order, Where to File Civil Documents, under Local Rule 3115. It took effect August 1, 2026. For Corona's ZIP Codes, 92877 through 92883, it sends these filings to the Corona Courthouse at 505 S. Buena Vista Ave., Room 201:
- Limited civil cases, where the amount in dispute is $35,000 or less (CCP § 85).
- Every unlawful detainer, including an eviction large enough to count as unlimited.
- Small claims.
- Restraining order petitions under CCP §§ 527.6, 527.7 and 527.8, which include civil harassment and workplace violence orders.
- Name change and gender change petitions.
- Several miscellaneous civil petitions, whether limited or unlimited: applications for a civil examination of a judgment debtor, petitions about vicious or dangerous dogs, structured settlement transfers and emancipation of a minor.
One more line in the order applies countywide. Petitions about altered vehicles and asset forfeitures, and claims opposing forfeiture, are filed at Corona no matter where in Riverside County they arise.
The court's page for the building lists office hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on weekdays, with clerk phone hours ending at 2:00 p.m. The two courtrooms, C1 and C2, are on the second floor. A drop box takes documents until 4:00 p.m., and anything left later is processed the next court day.
When a Corona case goes to Riverside instead
Three kinds of Corona cases are filed in downtown Riverside, on Main Street, about 13.5 miles from Corona in a straight line:
| Corona case type | Courthouse | Order |
|---|---|---|
| Unlimited civil, including writs of mandate (non-CEQA) | Riverside Historic Courthouse, 4050 Main Street | Civil order, effective Aug. 1, 2026 |
| Complex, class action and CEQA cases | Riverside Historic Courthouse | Civil order, subdivision (f) |
| Divorce, custody, support, domestic violence orders | Riverside Family Law Courthouse, 4175 Main Street | Family law order, effective July 8, 2024 |
| Probate, meaning all proceedings under the Probate Code | Riverside Historic Courthouse, Probate Division | Probate order, effective Dec. 23, 2024 |
The family law order groups Corona with the rest of the court's Western Region, including Riverside, Moreno Valley, Perris and Banning. Its Corona list also prints 92860, which is Norco's ZIP Code. The probate order covers ZIP Codes 92877 through 92883 in the Western Region list for the Historic Courthouse.
So a single Corona dispute can touch two buildings. A landlord's eviction is filed in Corona. If the same landlord later sues a former tenant for $60,000 in damages, that unlimited case is filed in Riverside.
Room 201: records, forms and self-help in Corona
The same room that takes Corona's filings is also the courthouse's Self-Help Center. The court's self-help information page lists both public viewing computers and form computers there. The viewing computers show available case files, calendars and court records, and there's no charge to look. Copies are another matter. Bought online, they cost $1 a page for the first 5 pages and $0.50 a page after that, capped at $50 per document, according to the court's records page. Certified copies are requested from the courthouse.
The court's Self-Help Legal Services department covers family law, evictions, small claims, name changes, guardianship, conservatorship, probate and restraining orders. That helps a self-represented Corona landlord or small claims plaintiff with the forms. It doesn't serve the papers, and the person who files can't serve them either.
Filing from home is split by case type. The court sends civil, eviction and small claims filings to eFiling, and family law and probate to eSubmit. For a Corona parent whose custody case belongs on Main Street in Riverside, eSubmit can save the 13.5-mile trip. The respondent still has to be served in person or by another method the law allows, and we serve family law papers anywhere in Riverside County.
Papers to serve in Corona?
The 92503 question and other Corona ZIP Codes
The Census Bureau places six ZIP Code areas wholly or partly in Corona: 92879, 92880, 92881, 92882, 92883 and 92503. The court's civil order lists 92503 under Riverside, not Corona. That label doesn't change much in practice. For limited civil, evictions and small claims, the order sends 92503 to the Corona Courthouse, and its unlimited, family and probate assignments match Corona's.
92880 has its own wrinkle. The City of Eastvale's history page says Eastvale shares that ZIP Code with Corona, and that many residents once assumed they lived in Corona because of it. Our Eastvale page covers that overlap. For service, the street address controls. Send it exactly as you have it, and add the city if you know it.
Before the first attempt at a Corona address
A good Letter of Instruction does more for a Corona request than anything else. Include:
- Every address, home and work, with unit or suite numbers. If the person commutes into Orange County or toward Riverside, the work address may be the better first attempt.
- Access details. For gated neighborhoods or secured apartment buildings, the call box name or code, or a note that you don't have one.
- Who else lives or works there. Substituted service under CCP § 415.20 depends on leaving the papers with a competent adult at the home or the person in charge at a business, then mailing a copy.
- A description or photo, plus any vehicle.
- Hearing dates. Tell us if a hearing is set, so the request is planned around it.
Pick Rush or Standard, then get the updates by email. If the person has moved, ask about skip tracing.
A limited civil motion at the Corona Courthouse can often be argued from an office. Under Local Rule 3132, the court's remote appearance page encourages remote appearances at hearings with no testimony, such as motions and case management conferences. The party appearing remotely gives the other side notice, which can be by phone, email or text, and needn't tell the court ahead of time. If the judge disallows it, the hearing is continued to an in-person date.
Small claims and evictions in Corona
Small claims filed at Corona follow the Judicial Council's timing rules in SC-104B, revised January 1, 2026. Personal service has to be done at least 15 days before trial, or 20 days if the defendant lives outside Riverside County. For substituted service, the copy must be mailed at least 25 days before trial, or 30 days for a defendant outside the county. A Corona plaintiff suing someone in Chino Hills or Anaheim is serving outside the county, so the longer windows apply even though the drive is short.
For evictions, the timing that matters is the tenant's response period, which starts when service is complete. Attorneys must e-file Riverside unlawful detainers, along with limited and unlimited civil cases, under Local Rule 3118. Self-represented landlords can file at the Corona counter or the drop box. AB 747 adds new requirements from January 1, 2027. Before an eviction summons can be posted, diligence is shown by attempts on at least three occasions, on three different days at three different times (CCP § 415.45). Our AB 747 guide explains the change, and our proof of service guide covers which form fits each case.
Judgment debtor exams and other post-judgment papers
Applications for a civil examination of a judgment debtor from Corona ZIP Codes are filed at the Corona Courthouse, so a creditor who wins a Corona case may need a second round of service. The order to appear has to reach the debtor before the exam date. Send it to us with the exam date, the debtor's last known home and work addresses, and anything you learned during the case. Subpoenas for witnesses or records in a Corona case can go on the same request. Our post on serving a subpoena in California explains the basics.
Serving a business with a Corona location
California corporations and LLCs name an agent for service of process with the Secretary of State (Corporations Code §§ 1502 and 17701.13). For a store, office or industrial site in Corona, that agent is often elsewhere, and serving the agent is usually the cleanest route. Search bizfile Online and send us the agent's details along with the papers. If you need to file the case first, our Riverside County court filing page explains filing and service on one request, and our serving corporations page covers businesses with no agent on file.
