La Verne is on the eastern edge of Los Angeles County, and none of its court business stays in town. A La Verne divorce, a landlord's eviction, a collection suit and a probate petition can land in four different buildings, the nearest one in Pomona and the farthest in downtown Los Angeles.
We serve summonses, family law petitions, eviction papers, small claims, subpoenas and restraining orders at La Verne homes, apartments and workplaces, and we file the case first when you need that too. Send the PDFs with a Service Request or email them to Service@ValproAttorneyServices.com.
Four courthouses take La Verne cases
On October 29, 2026, we queried the court's filing court locator for ZIP Code 91750. It returned one community, La Verne, and eight case types spread across four buildings:
| La Verne case type | Courthouse | Straight-line distance |
|---|---|---|
| Unlimited civil, family law, restraining orders | Pomona Courthouse South, 400 Civic Center Plaza, Pomona 91766 | about 4 miles (Pomona's center point) |
| Limited unlawful detainer, small claims | West Covina Courthouse, 1427 West Covina Parkway, West Covina 91790 | 10.3 miles |
| Limited civil collection | Norwalk Courthouse, 12720 Norwalk Blvd., Norwalk 90650 | 22.4 miles |
| Probate, limited civil other than collection | Stanley Mosk Courthouse, 111 North Hill Street, Los Angeles 90012 | 27.6 miles |
Distances run from La Verne's Census center point to each courthouse address. The directory opens Pomona, West Covina and Norwalk at 8:00 a.m. and Stanley Mosk at 7:30 a.m., and the main Clerk's Offices at all four keep 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays, except court holidays.
Read the summons before anything goes out. A La Verne tenant whose papers name Pomona, or a debtor whose papers name West Covina, has been handed the wrong building, and that kind of error is cheaper to fix before service than after.
Divorce and custody at Pomona Courthouse South
Family law is the La Verne case type most likely to need several rounds of service: the petition and summons, then requests for orders, then notices. All of it is filed at Pomona Courthouse South.
The court's directory lists details that save a wasted trip:
- Family Law Clerk's Office: 1st floor, Room 101. Its listed hours start at 8:00 a.m., half an hour before the civil counter in the same room.
- Family Court Services mediation: 1st floor, Room 125. Custody and visitation mediation is scheduled here.
- Self-Help Center and Family Law Facilitator: 7th floor, Room 730.
- Domestic Violence Clinic: also Room 730, with a listed number of (800) 433-6251.
- Children's Waiting Room: 4th floor, Room 410.
Public parking is in the lot on 7th Street, on the south side of the building. Where the papers are filed doesn't limit where they're served. A La Verne respondent can be served at home, at a job in Ontario or at a relative's place in San Dimas, and the proof of a family law summons usually goes on form FL-115. Our proof of service guide covers which form fits which case.
Restraining orders filed in Pomona
The locator lists restraining orders separately, and for 91750 they also go to Pomona Courthouse South. Los Angeles Local Rule 2.3 lets family law and civil harassment matters be filed where a party lives, or in any district needed to keep the requesting party safe. So a La Verne resident who has moved away for safety reasons may be filing somewhere else.
For the person being restrained, the papers are handed over in person. Give us the hearing date, a recent photo and every place the person can be found. If the hearing is days away, choose Rush.
Evictions and small claims in West Covina
La Verne's landlord cases and small claims go 10.3 miles southwest to West Covina. The directory places both clerk's counters in Room 107 and lists one number for them, (626) 430-2596. Eviction ex parte requests are heard at 11:00 a.m. in Department 2, Monday through Friday. The court offers free four-hour parking in designated areas, though some levels are kept for court staff.
Once an eviction summons is served, the tenant's time to answer starts. The California Courts self-help page sets it at 10 court days after personal service, leaving out Saturdays, Sundays and court holidays. After substituted service, the tenant gets 10 calendar days plus 10 court days from the mailing. A tenant served through the state's Safe at Home program gets 15 court days. We record the date and time of every attempt, so the proof gives your attorney a clean starting point for that count.
Small claims runs on a different clock, counted backward from the trial date. Form SC-104B requires personal service at least 15 days before trial, or 20 days if the defendant is outside Los Angeles County. Substituted service needs 25 days, or 30 outside the county. The person suing can't serve their own claim, which is one reason La Verne plaintiffs send it to a server.
Collection suits go to Norwalk
A limited civil collection case against a La Verne debtor is filed 22.4 miles away in Norwalk. The directory puts the Civil Clerk's Office on the 1st floor in Room 101 and gives limited civil collections its own phone line, (562) 345-0898, separate from general civil and from limited unlawful detainer.
Parking there is paid. The directory sends visitors to the City of Norwalk parking structure off Civic Center Drive, east of the courthouse, entered from Avenida Manuel Salinas, and warns that large vehicles may not clear the height limit. A filing that has to land the same day should account for that.
If an attempt shows the debtor has moved, skip tracing looks for a current address before the next try, and we ask before spending more.
Papers to serve in La Verne?
Probate and other limited cases downtown
Probate for a La Verne estate is filed at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, as are limited civil cases that aren't collections. Local Rule 2.3 keeps conservatorship, guardianship, probate and trust matters in the Central District unless the parties qualify for the North District. La Verne isn't in the North District, so it's downtown.
The directory lists Probate Operations on the 4th floor, Room 429, at (213) 830-0800, and says there are no probate clearing attorney office hours. To clear probate notes, attorneys must file documents electronically. Self-represented petitioners aren't required to e-file but may.
Probate service is mostly notice by mail to heirs and beneficiaries, but some petitions need personal delivery, and an heir living in La Verne may be hard to reach by mail alone. Document retrieval can pull filed papers from the Hill Street records counter when you need a conformed copy.
The East District and injury lawsuits
Local Rule 2.2 divides the county into 12 districts. Pomona Courthouse South, the El Monte Courthouse and the West Covina Courthouse make up the East District. El Monte is 15.4 miles from La Verne, but the locator doesn't send any La Verne case type there.
Injury cases follow a stricter rule. Under Local Rule 2.3, an unlimited personal injury action, such as a car crash, premises liability or medical malpractice case, must be filed in the district where the incident arose. A collision on a La Verne street belongs in the district that covers La Verne, whatever the parties' home addresses. A crash in Pasadena or Long Beach doesn't, even if every driver lives in 91750.
The same rule adds paperwork that travels with the summons. Every new civil filing needs form LACIV 109, the Civil Case Cover Sheet Addendum and Statement of Location, signed by counsel or the self-represented plaintiff. A copy of the completed form must be served with the summons and complaint. When you send a La Verne complaint for service, include LACIV 109 in the set so the defendant receives everything the rule requires.
A 91750 address isn't always inside La Verne
The Census Bureau's 2020 relationship file splits the land in ZIP Code 91750 like this:
- About 45% inside the City of La Verne
- About 54% inside no incorporated city or Census-designated place
- Small slivers, each under 1%, inside Claremont, Glendora and San Dimas
So a "La Verne" mailing address can belong to unincorporated county land or to a neighboring city. For service, that changes little: the server goes to the street address. For filing small claims, limited collection and limited eviction cases, it can matter. Local Rule 2.3 tells filers to find the city or community that sets venue, then the ZIP Code the Postal Service assigns to that spot, then the courthouse the rule's tables list for that pair. When an address sits in the hills or on the city's edge, run the locator with the community name and ZIP Code before you file.
Serving the City of La Verne
Claims against the city itself start with a step before any lawsuit. Form SC-104C tells small claims plaintiffs to file a claim with the public entity first and ask it for the claim procedure. If the claim is denied and you sue, the papers are served on the city clerk, a chief officer or an agent authorized to accept service, and the proof names the city exactly.
The city's website lists City Hall at 3660 D Street, La Verne 91750, open Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Plan the delivery for one of those four days.
What helps the server at a La Verne address
A few details in the request make the first attempt at a La Verne address count:
- Unit, space or lot numbers, for apartments and mobile home parks
- A gate code or call box name, if the property has one
- Work hours and a work address, if the person is rarely home in the daytime
- A photo or description, since a relative may not confirm who lives there
- Vehicles, when a car in the driveway helps confirm someone is home
Put these in the Letter of Instruction when you submit. If a resident refuses to open the door, the server records the attempt and the details for the proof or for a later declaration of diligence.
Companies with a La Verne address
A business sued in La Verne is normally served through its agent for service of process. Look the entity up on bizfile Online and copy the agent's name and street address exactly. If the agent is a professional registered agent company, the papers go to its office, often outside the county. Our guides to CSC Lawyers Incorporating Service and CT Corporation cover two common ones, and the serving corporations page covers the rest. Records subpoenas usually go to a custodian of records, which our post on how to serve a subpoena in California explains.
One request for filing and service
We can file at Pomona, West Covina, Norwalk or Stanley Mosk, or e-file, and then serve once the court issues the summons. Our Los Angeles County court filing page lists what we need. Get status updates by email. We make no guarantees for service.
Neighboring Los Angeles County cities share most of La Verne's routing: San Dimas, Glendora, Claremont and Pomona. East of the county line, Upland and Montclair belong to San Bernardino County Superior Court. For the rest of the county, see our Los Angeles County page.
