Valpro Attorney Services serves summonses, complaints, subpoenas, small claims, eviction papers and family law documents on people and businesses in Yountville. The town is small, about 3,400 residents at the 2020 Census, but its addresses take in a state veterans home and a long stretch of unincorporated land. We plan each attempt around which of those an address really is.
Requests come in online from anywhere. Yountville is about 49 miles from our Sacramento office in a straight line, and every Napa County filing for a Yountville case lands in the same downtown Napa building.
One courthouse for Yountville civil, family and probate cases
The Superior Court of California, County of Napa, runs three locations, all in the city of Napa. Only one of them takes civil filings.
| Yountville matter | Where it goes |
|---|---|
| Civil, limited or unlimited | Historic Courthouse, 825 Brown St, Napa, Civil Division counter |
| Unlawful detainer | Historic Courthouse |
| Small claims | Filed at the Historic Courthouse; hearings typically Thursdays, 1:30 p.m., Courtroom 2 |
| Family law, including restraining orders | Historic Courthouse |
| Probate, guardianship, conservatorship | Historic Courthouse |
| Juvenile filings | Historic Courthouse; hearings at the Juvenile Hall Courthouse, 2350 Old Sonoma Road |
| Criminal and traffic | Criminal Courthouse, 1111 Third St, Napa |
From the court's Civil Division and locations pages and its Local Rules effective January 1, 2026, read October 2026.
The Historic Courthouse is about 7.9 miles south of central Yountville. The court says all divisions are open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, including the noon hour, and documents are accepted for filing during those hours. A drop box takes same-day filings and payments until 5:00 p.m.
Filing a Yountville case without the counter
Napa doesn't force anyone to e-file. Local Rule 2.10 lets parties file electronically through an approved provider in civil, family, probate, criminal, traffic and juvenile cases, and the court's division pages say documents "may also be electronically filed." The choice is yours.
Two cautions from the court's eFile page and Civil Division page:
- Redaction is on you. The court says it can't redact documents that are filed electronically. Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers and other sensitive details have to be removed before upload.
- Electronic service is a separate choice. The Civil Division posts forms to opt in to, and opt out of, electronic service under Code of Civil Procedure § 1010.6. Opting in changes how later papers reach you. It doesn't replace personal service of a summons.
Direct fax filing isn't available. The court's locations page says faxed documents must be processed and delivered through a faxing agency. For a counter filing, endorsed copies or a records pull, see our Napa County court filings page. The court lists a separate research and records line, (707) 299-1140, for older files.
The Veterans Home of California-Yountville
The California Department of Veterans Affairs runs one of its veterans homes in Yountville. CalVet's page for the home says:
- It was established in 1884.
- It can accommodate up to 876 residents and their spouses.
- The campus spans more than 600 acres.
- It offers four levels of care: independent living (also called domiciliary), assisted living, skilled nursing and memory care.
- A new 240-bed skilled nursing facility is near completion.
CalVet lists the home's address as 260 California Drive, Yountville, CA 94599, with a general information number of 707-944-4500. The admissions office is at 180 California Drive.
A campus of that size isn't one front door. When a party lives at the home, the street address alone won't tell a server where to go. On the Service Request, include:
- The resident's full name, exactly as it appears on the papers.
- The level of care, if you know it. An independent-living resident and a memory-care resident are in very different settings.
- Any building, unit or room detail a relative or the resident has shared.
- What you've learned from the home about visitors. Call the general information line before relying on a walk-in attempt.
We don't assume access to a care unit. If the home's staff won't bring a resident to a lobby, we'll report that and talk through the options with you.
Conservatorship papers for Yountville residents
Some Yountville matters aren't lawsuits at all. A family may petition for a conservatorship of a parent who lives in skilled nursing or memory care. Napa files conservatorships with the Civil Division at the Historic Courthouse.
The petition comes with a Citation for Conservatorship on Judicial Council form GC-320, addressed to the proposed conservatee. The citation tells the person about the hearing, their right to appear and oppose the petition, their right to an attorney and to a jury trial, and how a conservatorship can affect their right to contract, to manage property and to choose where they live. Page 3 of the form is the proof of service, with a line for personal delivery and its date and time.
Because the proposed conservatee is often the resident of a care setting, timing and access need more planning than a typical home attempt. Give us the hearing date, the facility, and the name of a staff contact or family member who can help arrange the visit. The petitioner can't serve the citation, and our guide to who can serve papers in California covers who can.
Papers to serve in Yountville?
Yountville's ZIP Code goes far past the town
The town and its ZIP Code are not the same place. The Census Bureau's 2020 ZIP Code to place file shows:
- About 18.5% of the 94599 ZIP Code's land lies inside the Town of Yountville.
- About 81.5% lies outside any incorporated town or Census-designated place.
All of 94599 is in Napa County, so the court is the same for every address. The difference is on the ground. An address with a Yountville mailing line may be a town lot within walking distance of the main street, or a rural parcel reached by a private drive. Remote areas are subject to different timelines under both Rush and Standard, and some of those outlying parcels qualify.
If you know about a gate, a locked drive, a dog or a separate guest house, write it in the Letter of Instruction. A photo of the entrance or a map pin saves an attempt.
A town policed by the Sheriff
Yountville has no police department of its own. The Town's Sheriff's Department page says the Town has contracted with the Napa County Sheriff's Office for law enforcement since incorporating on February 4, 1965, with one sergeant and three patrol deputies assigned, backed by the rest of the Sheriff's Office.
That contract is for law enforcement. Civil papers served by the Sheriff are a separate request with its own fee. The Napa court's small claims page, for example, lists the Sheriff at $50 per defendant served in Napa County, phone (707) 253-4325.
Yountville small claims
The Napa court's small claims page gives the local details, though one of its figures is stale:
| Item | What applies |
|---|---|
| Limit for an individual | $12,500 under current state law; the court's page still shows $12,000 |
| Larger claims | Claims up to $2,500 are unlimited; larger ones are capped at two per calendar year |
| Guarantor claims | Up to $4,000, or $2,500 if the guarantor doesn't charge |
| Hearings | Typically Thursdays, 1:30 p.m., Courtroom 2 |
| Judge | Usually a judge pro tem, a volunteer attorney, if both sides agree |
| Fees | $30 to $75 to file depending on amount; $10 to postpone; $20 for a motion; $75 to appeal |
The page says a case is heard within 40 days of filing if both sides live in the same county, and within 70 days if the defendant lives elsewhere. Service must be complete at least 15 days before the hearing for a defendant in Napa County, or 20 days for one outside it.
Of the four service options the court lists, certified mail by the clerk is the cheapest at $15. The court's own warning is the reason to think twice: the defendant doesn't have to accept it. When the hearing is weeks away, a refused letter can push the case to a new date.
Two more points from the same page. First, it promotes the Judicaid Napa Pilot, a free and confidential online mediation service, and says plainly that Judicaid isn't affiliated with the court and court staff can't answer questions about it. Second, appeals are one-sided. A plaintiff who loses their own claim can't appeal it. A defendant who loses, or a plaintiff who loses on the defendant's counterclaim, can appeal by filing a notice of appeal and paying the fee within 30 days after the notice of entry of judgment was mailed. The appeal is a new trial, the evidence is presented again, and lawyers may appear. Keep the opposing party's current address on file after the first hearing, in case later papers in the appeal need to reach them.
Evictions in Yountville
A landlord's unlawful detainer for a Yountville unit is filed at the Historic Courthouse. The Civil Division page notes that unlawful detainers have priority over most cases and are set for trial promptly, which makes service timing tight.
The tenant has 10 court days to answer after personal service, not counting weekends or court holidays. After substituted service, it's 10 calendar days plus 10 court days from the mailing. Both figures come from the California Courts self-help site, checked October 2026.
For posting an eviction summons, the landlord needs a court order under Code of Civil Procedure § 415.45. From January 1, 2027, AB 747 also spells out what shows reasonable diligence before substituted service: attempts at personal delivery on at least three occasions, on three different days, at three different times. The AB 747 guide explains it, and our proof of service guide covers the declaration that follows.
Serving a Yountville business
Many Yountville businesses are owned by companies based elsewhere. A manager on duty usually can't accept papers for the owner. Look up the entity on the California Secretary of State's bizfile Online and send us the agent for service of process as listed. Our serving corporations page lays out each method, and we have pages for CSC and CT Corporation, two agents that represent many companies.
For a witness subpoena to an employee, our post on how to serve a subpoena in California covers the basics.
