Palmdale counted 169,450 residents in the 2020 Census, yet almost every lawsuit it generates is filed in the next city over. The building that hears a Palmdale divorce, eviction or contract case sits on 4th Street West in Lancaster. The second thing to plan for is ground. Past the edge of town, the high desert opens into communities where homes sit far apart and the next attempt can be a long drive away.
We serve summonses, petitions, subpoenas, restraining orders and eviction papers at Palmdale addresses, and we file with the court when the case needs it. Everything is coordinated from our Sacramento office. Start a Service Request, attach the PDFs, and every update on the job comes by email.
Palmdale's cases go to Lancaster
We checked the Los Angeles Superior Court's filing court locator for Palmdale on October 28, 2026. For ZIP Codes 93550 and 93591, six case types point to one building, the Michael Antonovich Antelope Valley Courthouse at 42011 4th Street West, Lancaster 93534:
- unlimited civil, over $35,000
- family law
- restraining orders
- probate
- unlawful detainer
- small claims
Lancaster's Census center point is 8.1 miles from Palmdale's in a straight line. The courthouse lists eight divisions, from Civil and Family Law to Probate and Traffic, and its Clerk's Office keeps weekday hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except court holidays. The court's directory gives the Civil Clerk's Office a separate line, (661) 483-5797, on the 1st floor, and says public parking is free on the south and east sides.
The summons your defendant receives will name that Lancaster building. Make sure the copy we serve shows the right court and case number before it leaves.
Two local rules sit behind that list. Local Rule 2.2 names the Antelope Valley Courthouse as the only courthouse in the court's North District. Local Rule 2.3 says probate, guardianship, conservatorship and trust matters generally belong in the Central District, but it lets them be filed in the North District when the person, estate or trustee is based there, which is why Palmdale probate can stay in Lancaster. The same rule requires form LACIV 109 with every new civil filing and says a copy must be served with the summons and complaint, so include it in the PDFs you send us.
The $35,000 cases that leave the valley
Two Palmdale case types don't stay in the Antelope Valley. Both are limited civil, meaning the demand is $35,000 or less:
- Debt collection goes to the Chatsworth Courthouse, 9425 Penfield Ave., Chatsworth 91311.
- Every other limited civil case goes downtown to the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, 111 North Hill Street, Los Angeles 90012.
A credit card or loan balance under that line is filed in the San Fernando Valley, not in Lancaster. For a filing that far away, sending it electronically usually saves a day. We handle filings at the counter or by eFiling, whichever the document allows. Our Los Angeles County court filing page explains what we need to file it for you.
Acton is split at 9th Street
Acton is Palmdale's closest neighbor in our data, 7.9 miles away. The locator doesn't treat it as one place. It returns two entries for ZIP Code 93510, divided at 9th St. and Trail's End Rd.
| Part of Acton | Unlimited civil, family, evictions, small claims | Probate |
|---|---|---|
| North of 9th St. / Trail's End Rd. | Antelope Valley Courthouse, Lancaster | Antelope Valley Courthouse, Lancaster |
| South of 9th St. / Trail's End Rd. | Chatsworth Courthouse | Stanley Mosk Courthouse |
So two Acton neighbors a few miles apart can end up in different courthouses for the same kind of case. If your defendant or your client lives in Acton, find out which side of that line the property is on before you file. The serving side doesn't change: we go to the address on the request either way.
Palmdale ZIP Codes the locator didn't place
The Census Bureau ties five ZIP Code areas to Palmdale: 93550, 93551, 93552, 93591 and 93535. When we paired each one with Palmdale in the locator, three gave the routing above. Two returned no result at all: 93552 and 93535. Our data shows 93535 overlapping Lancaster as well.
The locator also uses community names that don't appear on a city map. Under 93550 it lists both Palmdale and "Palmdale East." Under 93591 it lists Palmdale and also Lake Los Angeles, a separate community name. Every one of those entries came back with the same courthouses.
If the address you have uses 93552 or 93535, don't guess. Check the property against the city boundary, try the locator with a different community name, or ask the clerk. Write the courthouse on your Service Request once you know it.

High-desert addresses take more planning
Past the city limits, distances grow. Littlerock is 8.4 miles away, Pearblossom 12.6, Llano 17.4 and Valyermo 17.5. Homes there can sit on large lots, behind gates or at the end of long driveways, and some addresses are rural routes that a map app places badly.
For those places, remote areas are subject to different timelines. Plan a little extra time between the first attempt and the hearing, and give the server what a stranger would need:
- the street address plus the nearest paved cross street
- the gate code, or who opens the gate
- a description of the house, fence, mailbox or outbuildings
- whether dogs or livestock are loose on the property
- the hours the person is usually home or at work in town
- a phone number, if you're allowed to share it
If the person works in Palmdale or Lancaster, tell us where. A business address in town can save a trip into the desert.
Three visits, three days: the 2027 rule out here
On January 1, 2027, AB 747 puts a number on "reasonable diligence" before substituted service in California. Diligence is shown by attempting personal delivery in good faith on at least three occasions, on three different days at three different times. Read our AB 747 guide for the full list of changes.
For a remote Palmdale-area address, each of those three attempts can be a long round trip. That's why the details above matter more after 2027. A server who knows when the person is home can make the three visits count.
The same law adds a photo to each attempt, stamped with the date, time and GPS coordinates. Some desert spots get weak coverage. The enrolled bill text answers that case: if no GPS or cellular signal is available at the time and place, the server gives a detailed statement on the proof of service instead.
Who can accept papers in Palmdale
Personal delivery to the defendant is the cleanest service. When that can't happen with reasonable diligence, CCP § 415.20 allows the papers to be left with a competent household member or a person apparently in charge at work, at least 18 years old, followed by a mailed copy. That service is complete on the 10th day after the mailing. It can't be done at a U.S. Postal Service post office box, which matters in places where mail goes to a box in town.
A Palmdale business works differently. A corporation can be served through the agent for service of process named with the Secretary of State, or through certain officers listed in CCP § 416.10. Look the company up on bizfile Online and send us the agent's name and address as written. Our page on serving corporations covers out-of-state companies and agents that resign. For the basic rule on who may hand papers over, see who can serve papers in California.
Following the job from Sacramento
Our office is 335.5 miles from Palmdale in a straight line, and nothing needs to be dropped off. Upload the papers with the request, choose Rush or Standard, and add your instructions. Every update comes by email.
If an attempt shows the person no longer lives at the address, we tell you before doing anything else. Skip tracing can look for a newer home or work address, and nothing goes back out until you approve it. Our post on skip tracing for legal cases explains what that search covers. Once service is complete, the signed proof comes back to you; our proof of service guide shows which form fits the case. We make no guarantees for service.
Around Palmdale
Lancaster is the closest city, and its courthouse takes most Palmdale cases. Acton sits just south, split between two courthouses as shown above. Littlerock, Pearblossom, Llano and Valyermo lie farther out in the desert, and the locator sends all four to the Antelope Valley Courthouse. For every other community, see our Los Angeles County page.
