Crescent City is the county seat of Del Norte County, on the Pacific coast in the far northwest corner of California. It is one of the most distant cities we cover: about 260 miles straight-line from Valpro Attorney Services at 1520 W El Camino Ave #125, Sacramento, CA 95833.
Distance doesn't change what you send us. Upload the papers on a Service Request or email them to Service@ValproAttorneyServices.com, and we take the job from Sacramento. It does change the timing, so read the planning section below before you pick a service level.
Planning service 260 miles from Sacramento
Our turnaround wording carries the caveat that matters most here: remote areas are subject to different timelines. Crescent City is a clear case of a remote area. Its neighbors are just as far out: Fort Dick is about 266 miles from our office, Smith River about 268 and Gasquet about 258.
Three things help a Del Norte request go out on time:
- Call first when the date is close. Ring 855-582-5776 with the hearing date or last day for service before you submit. We tell you what is realistic for that address.
- Put every lead in one request. Home, work, a relative's address, a second home. One request with three addresses is better than three requests on three days.
- Leave room for more than one day. From January 1, 2027, the diligence needed before substituted service is shown by attempting personal delivery on at least 3 occasions, on 3 different days at 3 different times (CCP § 415.20(b)(2)). Far from Sacramento, those three days need lead time.
We make no guarantees for service. We do tell you early if your date looks tight.
Del Norte Superior Court at 450 H Street
The Superior Court of California, County of Del Norte, lists one courthouse address on its civil, family and traffic pages: 450 H Street, Room 209, Crescent City, CA 95531. The court's civil page notes it has jurisdiction over all civil and small claims cases.
| What | Detail from the court |
|---|---|
| Filing counters | 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. |
| Exterior drop box | H Street side of the courthouse, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. |
| Courthouse Mailbox #31 | Main lobby, 4:30–5:00 p.m., for filings after the counter closes |
| Civil law and motion | Heard Fridays at 9:00 a.m., except court holidays |
| Family Law Facilitator | Traffic Court building at the corner of Fifth and G Street |

The Judicial Council's statewide Find My Court data also lists a traffic court at 680 5th Street. The court's own traffic page gives 450 H Street, Room 209 as the traffic contact address, so we use the court's page for filings.
Del Norte's filing deadline rule
Standing Order 21-003, signed June 18, 2021 and still posted on the court's site, sets deadlines that catch out-of-area filers:
- Cases with a calendar date: documents are due by 10:30 a.m. the court day before the hearing. After 10:30 a.m., they must be filed in open court.
- Calendar add-ons: requests to add a matter to a calendar must arrive by 10:30 a.m. the prior day, with listed criminal exceptions.
- After-hours filings: documents placed in Mailbox #31 between 4:30 and 5:00 p.m. get that day's date as the filing date.
The order says exceptions may be made when you contact the court with a valid reason. Source: Del Norte Superior Court Standing Order 21-003, checked October 2026.
For a Del Norte motion or opposition, that means working backward from the day before the hearing, not the hearing itself. Send us the filing with the hearing date and we plan the run to meet the 10:30 a.m. cutoff. See Del Norte County court filing for how filing requests work.
We didn't find a civil e-filing program among the court's online services in October 2026. The page lists calendars, jury status, fine payments, mailbox access and a case portal.
Papers to serve in Crescent City?
Serving someone at Pelican Bay State Prison
Pelican Bay State Prison, run by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), is at 5905 Lake Earl Drive, Crescent City, CA 95531. CDCR's facility page says it opened on December 1, 1989, covers about 275 acres and sits 13 miles from the Oregon border. Its institution mailing address is P.O. Box 7500, Crescent City, CA 95532.
Papers for a person housed there don't go to the front gate with a server. CDCR routes legal documents through the institution:
- Who handles it. CDCR's Ombudsman page says all legal matters go to each institution's Litigation Coordinator, who processes and serves legal documents and arranges attorney visits and notary services. CDCR lists the Pelican Bay coordinator's email, phone and fax on its Litigation Coordinators page.
- What to send. CDCR's page on serving legal documents on a confined person says to send them to the attention of the Litigation Coordinator where the person is housed, with the person's name and CDCR number. Documents can be faxed or sent by overnight mail.
- What comes back. Include a proof of service and a self-addressed stamped envelope (even if you fax). The coordinator logs the documents and gives them to the person's correctional counselor, who serves them and fills out the proof of service. The proof is mailed back, and you file it with the court.
- Find the right prison first. CDCR's online Inmate Locator shows where a person is housed. People are moved, so check before you send anything.

For a case that needs papers served on someone at Pelican Bay, call us at 855-582-5776 before you submit, and confirm the current procedure with the Litigation Coordinator.
