Paso Robles is the largest city in North County San Luis Obispo, and the Superior Court keeps a branch courthouse downtown on Park Street. Valpro Attorney Services serves summonses, complaints, small claims, family law papers, subpoenas and eviction documents at Paso Robles homes, businesses, wineries and ranch properties. We file there too, by e-filing or at the branch counter on the two mornings it's open.
Valpro Attorney Services is based at 1520 W El Camino Ave #125, Sacramento, CA 95833. Paso Robles is about 211 miles south of that office in a straight line, and we have no office on the Central Coast. You send the job to us, and we take it from there: open a Service Request, attach the papers, or email them to Service@ValproAttorneyServices.com. Our line is 855-582-5776, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Paso Robles Branch at 901 Park Street
The court lists the Paso Robles Branch at 901 Park Street, Paso Robles, CA 93446. Its local rules describe a clerk's office there for the criminal, civil and small claims divisions, and the family law pages direct filers to this branch as well. In practice, a North County case doesn't have to make the trip over the Cuesta Grade to San Luis Obispo.
The branch takes these kinds of filings for North County cases:
- Limited civil. Under Local Rule 9.19, a limited case filed in a branch court is assigned for all purposes to the branch judge, and its trial is held in the branch.
- Unlimited civil. Rule 9.27(e) assigns unlimited cases only to the Paso Robles Branch or the San Luis Obispo Courthouse, so both work for North County venue.
- Small claims. The court's small claims page lists the branch as a small claims contact.
- Family law. Rule 19.04 allows filing at either branch, with Local Form FL013, Statement of Venue, on the first filing.
- Unlawful detainer. Evictions are civil cases, so the same venue rule applies.
One thing the branch doesn't hear: probate. The court's probate page says all probate matters are filed and heard at the Civil & Family Law Branch in San Luis Obispo, so a Paso Robles estate or conservatorship goes south.
Two counter mornings a week
Plan around this before anything else. The court lists counter hours at the Paso Robles Branch on Wednesday and Friday only, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The phone line, (805) 706-3600, answers every weekday morning from 8:30 to noon. The court says its counter and phone hours were cut for budget reasons.
| Day | Paso Robles counter | San Luis Obispo counter |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | closed | 8:30 a.m.–noon |
| Tuesday | closed | 8:30 a.m.–noon |
| Wednesday | 8:30 a.m.–noon | 8:30 a.m.–noon |
| Thursday | closed | 8:30 a.m.–noon |
| Friday | 8:30 a.m.–noon | closed |
Represented parties have to e-file most civil, family and probate papers in this county anyway, and e-filing runs around the clock. The counter matters for self-represented filers and for documents the court won't take electronically, such as original wills and bonds. If a hand filing is due on a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday, it goes to San Luis Obispo. Tell us the deadline when you send the request, and see our San Luis Obispo County court filing page for how we handle filings for this court.
The North County venue line
Local Rules 9.27(c) and 9.28 put these communities in the Paso Robles venue for civil and small claims cases:
- Paso Robles and Templeton
- Atascadero and Santa Margarita
- Cambria, on the coast
- Unincorporated areas north of the Cuesta Grade
That last group takes in rural communities such as San Miguel, Shandon and Creston. Cambria is the one that surprises people: it sits on Highway 1 near the ocean, but its cases go to Paso Robles, while Cayucos and Morro Bay, farther down the same coast, go to San Luis Obispo. The first civil pleading must allege facts that show proper venue. Small claims venue turns on where the defendant lives or does business.
Papers to serve in Paso Robles?
Evictions in Paso Robles
The court's Unlawful Detainer page walks through the process in order: a notice of termination, then a summons and complaint, then service. A tenant who is personally served has 10 business days to file an Answer or another responsive pleading, the court says, and it flags that its own eviction video still says 5 days. If the tenant files nothing, the landlord can seek a default judgment.
When the tenant does respond and the landlord files a Request to Set for Trial, Local Rule 32.03 has the court set a Mandatory Settlement Conference. It's held electronically unless someone asks to appear in person. The parties, their attorneys and anyone whose consent is needed to settle must attend.
For the service itself, send us the conformed summons, the complaint, and any attachments the court issued. Note who lives at the unit and whether there's more than one household. Questions about posting or substituted service of an eviction summons, and how those change in 2027, are covered in our AB 747 guide.
The Sheriff's civil unit and the Paso Robles drop-off
The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office also serves civil papers. Its civil FAQ makes a few points worth comparing:
- Papers can be mailed or brought to the Sheriff's office, or submitted at the Paso Robles Branch of the Superior Court through inter-departmental mail.
- The Sheriff asks to receive documents at least 10 days before the last day for service.
- Deputies make at least three attempts at different times on different days, and they usually start the business day after the papers arrive.
- Deputies generally work Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
A Service Request comes to us online, so nothing has to be mailed or dropped at a counter. Add your instructions on the Letter of Instruction: when the person is home, a vehicle, a workplace, and any gate or access detail. Our guide to who can serve papers in California explains your options, including the Sheriff.
Vineyards, ranches and rural roads
Inside the city, most addresses are ordinary homes, apartments and storefronts. Paso Robles had 31,490 residents in the 2020 Census and an estimated 31,626 on July 1, 2025. The Census ties one ZIP Code area, 93446, to the city.
Outside the city limits it changes. Much of North County is vineyard, ranch and open land reached by long private drives. Mailbox numbers don't always match the house, gates are common, and the person you need may live in one building and work in another. These details help us find them:
- the parcel's gate code, or who to call for entry
- a description of the house or the building to approach
- a work location, such as the winery, tasting room or office
- a vehicle, if the person drives something identifiable
Remote areas are subject to different timelines, and that rule applies to much of the land around Paso Robles. Expect rural North County jobs to need more time than a downtown address.
Serving a winery or other North County business
The name on the sign isn't always the legal name. A winery, tasting room or farm operation may be owned by an LLC or corporation with a different name. Check the entity's record on the Secretary of State's bizfile Online, then send us the agent for service of process it lists. If the agent is a commercial service in another city, we serve there. Our guide to serving a corporation covers who else can accept for a business.
When an owner can't be found at the property or the record looks stale, skip tracing can turn up a current address. Our post on finding a defendant in California explains what to gather first.
