Concord counted 125,410 people at the 2020 Census, more than any other city in Contra Costa County. Richmond (116,448) and Antioch (115,291) come next. Valpro Attorney Services serves summonses, complaints, subpoenas, family law papers and eviction notices at Concord addresses, and we can file the case in Martinez on the same request.
We don't have a Concord office. Concord work is handled from our Sacramento office, 52 miles away in a straight line, and the updates come to you by email.
Concord cases leave town for Martinez
Concord has no courthouse of its own. The county court's where-to-file table gives one answer for every Concord ZIP Code it lists (94518 through 94522, 94524, 94527 and 94529): the Wakefield Taylor Courthouse at 725 Court Street in Martinez.
| Concord matter | Where it's filed | Notes from the court's pages |
|---|---|---|
| Civil, limited or unlimited | Wakefield Taylor Courthouse, Martinez All civil cases are filed here; unlimited cases are heard here, and limited civil has been heard in Dept. 14, Richmond, since 1/5/26 | |
| Small claims | Wakefield Taylor Courthouse, Martinez | Filed in the court serving the city where the dispute started |
| Unlawful detainer | Wakefield Taylor Courthouse, Martinez | Same city-based rule as small claims |
| Family law, DVROs, adoptions | Spinetta Family Law Center, 751 Pine St, Martinez | Countywide filing point |
| Probate, guardianship, conservatorship | Wakefield Taylor Courthouse, Martinez | Filed and heard there |

From Concord's Census center point, Wakefield Taylor is about 7.9 miles away and Spinetta about 6.8. The Richard E. Arnason Justice Center in Pittsburg is roughly as close, at 6.9 miles, but it serves East County cities, not Concord.
The 94565 overlap on Concord's north side
ZIP Codes and city limits don't match cleanly here. The Census Bureau's 2020 relationship file places about 16% of Concord's land area inside ZIP Code area 94565. Most of 94565 belongs to Pittsburg and the Bay Point community, and the court's table assigns 94565 to the Pittsburg courthouse.
So a 94565 address can sit inside Concord or outside it. The court's own rule for small claims and evictions is the city where the dispute started, not the ZIP Code. When an address in that ZIP is inside Concord city limits, the Concord row applies and the case goes to Martinez. When it's in Pittsburg or Bay Point, it goes to Pittsburg.
The 94520 area has a similar edge. Census maps small pieces of it into unincorporated Bay Point, Clyde, Pacheco and Vine Hill. Those slivers are small, but on a lease or notice they can read just like a Concord address. If the venue matters, confirm the property's jurisdiction before filing. We serve the address exactly as written on the papers either way.
ZIP Codes on the court list that aren't street addresses
Four Concord ZIP Codes in the court's table (94522, 94524, 94527 and 94529) have no Census ZIP Code area of their own. ZIP Codes without one are usually post office box or single-address codes. A box number is fine for mail, but personal service needs a place where the person actually lives or works. If a defendant only gives a Concord P.O. box, our guide to finding a defendant and skip tracing can turn up a street address.
Getting papers on file at Wakefield Taylor
The Martinez courthouse page sets out the hours that matter for a deadline:
- Clerk windows open at 8:00 a.m. and close at 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Drop box: any document deposited between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. is deemed filed that same day.
- Court Records, Room 103, is open 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for copies and file review.
- Phones at (925) 608-1000 are answered 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Parking is metered on the streets around the building.
The drop box hour after the windows close is the useful one. Papers that reach Court Street by 5:00 p.m. still count for that day.
For attorneys, the counter is often beside the point. The Ninth Amended Standing Order (February 2, 2026) lists the designated e-filing cases: limited, unlimited and complex civil, family law, probate, small claims, unlawful detainer and appeals, mandatory for represented parties since July 5, 2022, through Odyssey eFileCA. A few papers still go in on paper; in civil cases that includes subpoenas. Self-represented filers can still use the counter, the drop box or mail. We handle both routes. See Contra Costa County court filings or our post on California court e-filing.
Papers to serve in Concord?
Limited civil: filed in Martinez, assigned in Richmond
One change from early 2026 catches people. The court's limited civil page says all limited civil cases ($35,000 or less) were reassigned from Department 34 to Department 14 in Richmond, effective January 5, 2026. The Richmond courthouse page adds a filing rule. Limited civil forms can be dropped off there only if the next hearing or deadline is at least 3 court days away. Otherwise they go to Martinez, Room 103.
For a Concord collection case or a contract dispute under $35,000, check the department on the notice. Richmond's George D. Carroll Courthouse is across the county at 100 37th Street. If the papers need to reach either building, say so on the Service Request.
Evictions from Concord rentals
Concord landlords file unlawful detainers in Martinez under the court's city rule. The landlord-tenant page sets the pace. Under current state law the tenant has 10 court days to respond after personal service (the court's page still says 5 days), and if an Answer is filed, trial follows about 20 days later. Only the Sheriff can carry out the eviction itself.
Because the response clock starts at service, the details on the request decide how fast the first attempt can be made:
- Every adult occupant's name as it appears on the notice and the lease.
- The unit number and building letter. Large complexes often repeat unit numbers across buildings.
- Gate or lobby access, if there's a call box or a code.
- Whether you also need the filing. The complaint can be e-filed or taken to Court Street on the same request.
Our proof of service guide covers what the server's proof has to show. Starting January 1, 2027, AB 747 changes parts of substituted service; our AB 747 guide walks through it.
Workplaces near the Concord BART stations
Concord has two BART stations. BART's own page says the Concord station on Oakland Avenue was the end of the line until 1995, when trains were extended to Pittsburg/Bay Point. The North Concord/Martinez station on Port Chicago Highway sits near State Route 4 and the old Concord Naval Weapons Station.
When the person works in one of Concord's office buildings, a home address is still the best first stop. If the workplace is the only lead, give us the building, floor and suite, the company name, and the hours the person is usually in. A front desk or security guard may not let a server upstairs. Knowing whether there's a lobby check-in saves an attempt.
Serving a Concord business
For a corporation or LLC, look up the agent for service of process on the California Secretary of State's bizfile Online. A cashier or a branch manager at a Concord location usually isn't authorized to accept. Many companies name a commercial registered agent, so the right address may not be in Concord at all. Our serving corporations page explains each route. It has separate pages for CSC and CT Corporation.
Send up to 5 PDFs with a Service Request, choose Rush or Standard, and call 855-582-5776 if the deadline is tight. We make no guarantees for service.
