Loma Linda is a city of 24,791 people at the 2020 Census, on about 7.6 square miles of land in San Bernardino County. The Census Bureau's Vintage 2025 estimate puts it slightly higher, at 25,221. It sits between San Bernardino, Redlands, Colton and Grand Terrace, and its southern ZIP Codes run toward the Riverside County line.
Loma Linda has no courthouse, and San Bernardino Superior Court doesn't send all of a city's cases to one building. Its Where Can I File page lists each courthouse with the filings it accepts and the communities it serves, and Loma Linda appears under several of them. For a process server in Loma Linda, CA, the first step is reading that page for the case type in hand. The second is making sure the address is really in San Bernardino County.
Where each Loma Linda case is filed
Taken from the court's Where Can I File page, read in October 2026, here's the routing for Loma Linda, with straight-line distances from the city's Census center point:
Civil Division, San Bernardino Justice Center, 247 West Third Street, San Bernardino (about 4.6 miles). Limited and unlimited civil cases, unlimited landlord-tenant cases, civil harassment, gun violence and workplace violence restraining orders, postsecondary school protective orders, name change petitions, petitions for return of firearms, labor board appeals and writs of mandate.
Fontana District, 17780 Arrow Boulevard, Fontana (about 10.2 miles). Small claims, limited landlord-tenant cases, probate, guardianships and conservatorships, and elder or dependent adult abuse restraining orders. The page's list for civil harassment, gun violence and workplace violence orders at Fontana also names Loma Linda.
Family Law Division, Historic Courthouse, 351 North Arrowhead Avenue, San Bernardino (about 4.8 miles). Family law, adoptions, domestic violence restraining orders, emancipations and freedom from custody. The Child Support Division, for government child support cases, is in the same building.
Every one of those clerk's offices lists hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, except court holidays. Because the three buildings are in two cities, a filing and a related hearing can be in different places; a Loma Linda tenant sued in a limited eviction goes to Fontana, while the same tenant's restraining order against a neighbor could be in San Bernardino.
Two evictions, two buildings
San Bernardino splits landlord-tenant cases by size, and that catches people. A limited unlawful detainer, the usual case for back rent and possession, goes to the Fontana District, about 10 miles west of Loma Linda. An unlimited landlord-tenant case goes to the Civil Division at the Justice Center in San Bernardino, much closer. The court's page lists them under different buildings, so the classification on the complaint decides the counter.
Either way, service works the same. The tenant has 10 court days to answer after personal service of the summons and complaint. When the papers are left with another adult at the unit and a copy is mailed, the Judicial Council's guide adds 10 calendar days before those court days start. Tell us the unit number, any gate code and the names of adult occupants. General information, not legal advice.
Small claims and probate in Fontana
The Fontana District is the valley's small claims courthouse, and Loma Linda is on its list. A small claims defendant has to be served at least 15 days before the hearing if they live in the county where the case was filed, or 20 days before if they live elsewhere. That second rule matters here: a defendant whose home is on the Riverside County side of a Loma Linda ZIP Code is out of county for a San Bernardino small claims case.
Probate also goes to Fontana for Loma Linda, along with guardianships and conservatorships, which the page lists together. An estate's notices may have to reach relatives in several counties, so give us every name and address in the petition. Elder or dependent adult abuse restraining orders from Loma Linda are filed in Fontana too.
The Historic Courthouse: families and child support
Family cases from Loma Linda go to the Historic Courthouse on Arrowhead Avenue, a few blocks from the Justice Center. The court lists family law, adoptions, domestic violence restraining orders, emancipations and freedom from custody there, and its Child Support Division takes government child support filings for Loma Linda and the rest of the valley area.
For a domestic violence restraining order, the restrained person must be personally served with the temporary order and the notice of hearing before the hearing date, and the person who serves can't be the protected party. Send a recent photo, the person's car and plate if known, and when they're usually home or at work. Our proof of service guide explains the form the server completes.
When a Loma Linda ZIP Code crosses the county line
The Census Bureau's 2020 ZCTA to place file shows how Loma Linda's land divides among its ZIP Codes. About 62% is in 92354, about 22% in 92324 and about 13% in 92373. Small pieces fall in 92374, 92350 and 92408. ZIP Code 92350 is tiny, about 43 acres, and lies entirely inside the city.
Two of those ZIP Codes cross into another county. By the Census Bureau's ZCTA to county file, about 32% of the land in 92324 and about 42% of the land in 92373 is in Riverside County. Loma Linda itself is entirely in San Bernardino County, so those Riverside portions lie outside the city; the largest share of 92324 is in Colton, and 92373 is split mainly between Redlands and unincorporated land. Still, it means a mailing address with one of those ZIP Codes doesn't prove which county a property is in.
If a case depends on where a defendant lives or where a property sits, confirm the county before filing. The Census geocoder will place an address in a county and city. A property on the Riverside side belongs with Riverside County Superior Court; our Riverside County page covers that court. ZIP Code 92354 sits entirely in San Bernardino County.
Papers to serve in Loma Linda?
Name changes, firearms petitions and other Justice Center filings
The Civil Division at the Justice Center takes more than lawsuits. For Loma Linda, the court's page also lists name change petitions, petitions for the return of firearms, postsecondary school protective orders, labor board appeals and writs of mandate there. Several of these involve serving someone. When a parent petitions to change a child's name, the other parent usually has to get notice of the hearing, and a protective order has to be handed to the person it restrains.
A new civil complaint carries its own deadline. Under California Rules of Court, rule 3.110(b), every named defendant must be served, and the proofs of service filed, within 60 days after the complaint is filed. If a Loma Linda defendant is hard to reach, start early and send any second address you have.
Juvenile cases and the Gilbert Street buildings
Juvenile matters have their own addresses. The court's page lists the Juvenile Court for dependency at 860 East Gilbert Street, San Bernardino, for all cities in the county, and juvenile delinquency filings for Loma Linda and the rest of the valley area at 900 East Gilbert Street. Both clerk's offices keep the same 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekday hours as the other buildings.
If a dependency or delinquency matter calls for a document to be served on a parent, relative or other person, send the court's order or notice along with the hearing date. Tell us whether the court specified a method of service, since the order controls. A server who knows the date can plan attempts around it rather than discovering the deadline after the fact.
E-filing depends on the case type
San Bernardino's e-filing rules aren't uniform. For General Civil cases, the court adopted mandatory e-filing and e-service effective September 2, 2025, by general order and local rule 1810.B. That covers unlimited, limited and complex cases, plus petitions for civil harassment, workplace violence, name change, election contests and relief from late claims. A party can ask for an exemption for undue hardship, significant prejudice or other good cause. Self-represented parties are exempt, though the court encourages them to e-file.
Self-represented parties who want electronic service in a general civil case have to opt in by filing and serving form EFS-005-CV, and the court notes that this consent can't be given through an e-filing provider. Landlord-tenant cases are different again: e-filing there has been voluntary since October 2, 2023, with no mandatory date set. Our San Bernardino County court filing service handles e-filing and counter filing.
Mental health and CARE Act matters
Two specialized calendars serve the whole county. The court's page says Mental Health Court sits at 400 North Pepper Avenue in Colton, about 6 miles from Loma Linda, on Tuesday mornings and Friday afternoons, with no public access to the facility except during court hearings. CARE Act proceedings from anywhere in San Bernardino County are filed and heard at the Fontana District.
Papers in these cases are served under their own rules and timelines, often on short notice. If you're sending one, tell us the hearing date and any instructions in the court's order.
What helps at a Loma Linda address
A few details make the first attempt count:
- The full address, with apartment, building or space number.
- The county, confirmed if the ZIP Code is 92324 or 92373.
- Access notes, such as a gate code or a manager's number.
- The person's schedule and any work address.
- A photo, for restraining orders and other papers that must be handed to one person.
From January 1, 2027, three good-faith attempts at personal delivery, on three different days at three different times, show the reasonable diligence required before substituted service (CCP § 415.20(b)(2)). Our AB 747 guide covers the new rules. We make no guarantees for service.
