Burbank has a courthouse, yet most people who file from Burbank never set foot in it. The court's directory gives the Burbank Courthouse at 300 East Olive exactly two divisions: civil and criminal. A Burbank resident who files for divorce, asks for a restraining order, brings a small claim or evicts a tenant is sent by the court's filing court locator to the Pasadena Courthouse, about 11 miles east.
That split decides which court address appears on the papers we deliver. We serve summonses, subpoenas and every other legal document across Burbank, and we file with Los Angeles Superior Court at the counter or by eFiling. Our only office is in Sacramento. You upload the papers on a Service Request or email them to Service@ValproAttorneyServices.com, and the proof of service comes back to you when service is complete.
Burbank's case-type map
We checked all five Burbank ZIP Codes in the court's Filing Court Locator on October 28, 2026. They all gave the same answers.
| Case | Where it's filed |
|---|---|
| Unlimited civil (above $35,000) | Burbank Courthouse, 300 East Olive, Burbank 91502 |
| Family law | Pasadena Courthouse, 300 East Walnut St., Pasadena 91101 |
| Restraining orders | Pasadena Courthouse |
| Small claims | Pasadena Courthouse |
| Limited eviction (unlawful detainer) | Pasadena Courthouse |
| Limited civil, not a collection | Stanley Mosk Courthouse, 111 North Hill Street, Los Angeles 90012 |
| Limited civil, collection | Chatsworth Courthouse, 9425 Penfield Ave., Chatsworth 91311 |
| Probate | Stanley Mosk Courthouse |
Only the first row stays in Burbank, and that row has a single answer. For Pasadena addresses, by contrast, the locator names two possible courthouses for big civil cases.
Burbank's place on the court map
The court's Local Rules divide Los Angeles County into 12 districts. Burbank is in the North Central District, which has only two courthouses: Burbank, at 300 East Olive, and Glendale, at 600 East Broadway. Pasadena belongs to the Northeast District. So a Burbank divorce, small claim or eviction is heard outside Burbank's own district.
District lines decide injury cases outright. Local Rule 2.3 says an unlimited personal injury action, such as a car crash, a fall on someone's property or medical malpractice, must be filed in the district where the incident happened. The rule tells filers to use the locator to find the courthouse. Search the place where the incident happened, not where the plaintiff or the defendant lives.
At 300 East Olive
The building opens at 8:00 a.m., and the clerks work from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays that aren't court holidays. The directory puts the Civil Clerk's Office in Room 225 on the second floor and the Criminal Clerk's Office in Room 100 on the first.
Departments here mix numbers and letters: 1, 2 and 3, then A, B, C and G. Copy the department exactly as your notice prints it, because "Dept. 2" and "Dept. B" are different courtrooms in the same building.
Parking is in the structure behind the courthouse, and the court caps it at three hours. A filing in the morning followed by a hearing can outlast that. If you'd rather not juggle both, send the filing to us and we'll take it to the counter or eFile it. Our Los Angeles County court filing page lists what to send.
Burbank family cases are filed in Pasadena
A divorce, custody or support case from Burbank goes to the Pasadena Courthouse. The Family Law Clerk's Office there is in Room 100 on the first floor, the same room the directory lists for Family Court Services mediation.
The papers are served wherever the other party actually is, which may be a Burbank apartment, a workplace across the county or a relative's home. Proof of service of a family law summons is usually made on form FL-115. The petitioner can't deliver the papers to their own spouse; any adult who isn't a party can, and so can we (CCP § 414.10).
Restraining orders move on the same track. Both Judicial Council proof forms, DV-200 for domestic violence and CH-200 for civil harassment, are titled Proof of Personal Service, because the restrained person has to receive the papers in hand. For those jobs, send us a recent photo, the person's schedule, any workplace and the hearing date.
Papers to serve in Burbank?
Small claims and evictions from Burbank
Both go to the Pasadena Courthouse, and both are handled in Room 102, where the directory lists the Small Claims Clerk's Office and the Unlawful Detainer Hub side by side.
Small claims. A defendant who lives in Los Angeles County must receive the claim at least 15 days before the hearing, and one living outside the county at least 20 days before (CCP § 116.340). The server then completes form SC-104, and the plaintiff files it. The plaintiff can't be the one who serves.
Evictions. A Burbank landlord's complaint is filed in Pasadena, and the tenant's summons names Pasadena. For cases filed from January 1, 2027, the complaint must state when and where the termination notice was served, down to the time of day (CCP § 1166(a)(5), operative 2027). If we serve your notice this year, the proof records those facts.
Urgent eviction motions follow the same path. The Pasadena directory says unlawful detainer ex parte matters are heard at 1:30 p.m. in Dept. R, upstairs on the second floor. If you're driving a work truck, note the court's warning about its paid structure off Ramona St.: the ceiling clearance is 6 feet 6 inches, and large trucks or SUVs may not fit. Other pay lots sit next to the courthouse.
$35,000 and under: two more courthouses
A limited civil case, one asking for $35,000 or less, leaves the Burbank-Pasadena pair entirely. A collection claim against a Burbank debtor is filed at the Chatsworth Courthouse on Penfield Avenue. A limited case that isn't a collection goes to the Stanley Mosk Courthouse in downtown Los Angeles, as does probate.
Stanley Mosk's directory shows each department with its former number beside the current one, after a renumbering. If a Stanley Mosk notice gives a department you can't find, check both numbers before assuming it's wrong.
The Los Angeles side of 91504
Burbank's ZIP Codes don't stop at the city limit. In the Census Bureau's ZIP-to-place file, about 39% of the 91504 land area is inside the City of Los Angeles, and 91505 and 91506 also include small pieces of Los Angeles.
We searched 91504 in the locator under both the Burbank and the Los Angeles community names. The results matched line for line, so a defendant on either side of that line gets the same courthouses. For service, the street address is what counts, and the server goes there regardless of which city name the envelope uses.
Serving at Burbank workplaces
Plenty of defendants are easier to catch at work than at home. If the workplace has a lobby desk, a security check-in or a gated lot, say so on the Service Request, along with the person's job title, the department and the hours they usually keep.
If personal delivery doesn't work, substituted service at a person's usual place of business is an option. The papers go to a person apparently in charge, and a copy is then mailed to the defendant (CCP § 415.20). Starting January 1, 2027, the diligence that comes first is shown by attempting personal delivery on at least three occasions, on three different days at three different times (CCP § 415.20(b)(2)). Our AB 747 guide explains the change, and who can serve papers in California covers who is allowed to make the attempts.
Companies and agents
A Burbank business that's a corporation or LLC is served through the agent for service of process it lists with the Secretary of State (Corporations Code §§ 1502 and 17701.13). Search the entity on bizfile Online, then send us the agent's name and address exactly as listed. When the agent is a commercial company such as CSC or CT Corporation, the papers go to that company's office, not to the Burbank address. If the agent can't be found, CCP § 416.10 lets certain officers be served instead. More on our serving corporations page.
When a Burbank address comes up empty
An old lease or a years-old judgment may point to a unit the person left long ago. Send whatever leads you have, and skip tracing looks for a current address for you to approve. Our post on how to find a defendant in California lists checks you can run first. After approval, the papers go back out on the same request, and the updates come to you by email. We make no guarantees for service.
Around Burbank
Glendale is 4.6 miles away and sends its own family and small claims cases to Pasadena too. La Cañada Flintridge is 7.3 miles off, and Sherman Oaks and West Hollywood are each about 7.5. San Fernando is 9.3 miles to the northwest. For the courthouse most Burbank family cases use, see Pasadena, and for everything else, the Los Angeles County page.
