Redding is the county seat of Shasta County, and the Shasta County Superior Court's site lists a single courthouse there. Valpro Attorney Services takes Redding work from our office at 1520 W El Camino Ave #125, Sacramento, CA 95833: summonses, subpoenas and every other legal document served on people and businesses, plus filings at the Shasta County Superior Court.
To start, open a Service Request, attach up to 5 PDFs and tell us who to serve. You can also email the papers to Service@ValproAttorneyServices.com or call 855-582-5776, Mon–Fri 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m.
Distance and timing for Redding service
Redding is about 143 miles straight-line from our Sacramento office. That is far enough that our turnaround wording applies here: remote areas are subject to different timelines. The same goes for the places around it. Shasta Lake is about 150 miles out and Anderson about 134.
What that means in practice:
- Tell us the deadline first. A hearing date, a response deadline or a statute date changes how we plan the attempts.
- Call before choosing Rush. Rush is on the form, but for a Redding address, a quick call to 855-582-5776 lets us tell you what is realistic for that street before you commit.
- Send every address at once. A home address and a workplace across town in the same request saves a second trip north.
- Expect us to confirm timing. For remote addresses we come back to you with a plan once the request is in.
We make no guarantees for service. What we can do is tell you, early, what the distance means for your date.
The Shasta County Superior Court in Redding
The Superior Court of California, County of Shasta, now lists one courthouse on its locations and contact pages: the Redding Main Courthouse at 1515 Court Street. Courtrooms 21 through 64 and the jury assembly room are in that building, and the civil, small claims and eviction offices all give it as their address.

|---|---|---|
| Civil Division | Main Courthouse, 1515 Court Street, Redding, CA 96001 | 8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. |
| Small Claims Division | Main Courthouse, 1515 Court Street, Redding, CA 96001 | 8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. |

One address detail matters. The Judicial Council's statewide Find My Court data, which many directories copy, still lists 1500 Court Street and a separate Justice Center on West Street. The court's own site lists only 1515 Court Street. Use the court's address on cover letters, maps and courier instructions, and check the court's site before a deadline in case it changes again.
Filing in Shasta County: counter, not e-filing
Many California courts now require attorneys to e-file. Shasta County is different. Its online services page lists case records, traffic payments, remote appearances and tentative rulings, but no civil e-filing program. Its local rules, in the edition effective July 1, 2026, don't set one up either.
The rule that does cover remote filing is Local Rule 5.14. The court does not accept direct fax filings, but it does take filings sent through a fax filing agency under California Rules of Court, rule 2.303. Anything else goes to the counter at 1515 Court Street.
For your Redding filings, that makes a court runner the practical route. Send us the documents, the case number, the filing fee arrangements and the deadline, and we take them to the counter. If you also need the filed summons served, say so on the same request. Our Court Filings page explains how filing requests work statewide.
Papers to serve in Redding?
Small claims service deadlines in Shasta County
The court's small claims page sets out service deadlines that a Redding plaintiff has to plan around. When a claim is filed, the clerk sets the hearing about 45 days out to leave time for service.
| Method | Defendant in Shasta County | Defendant outside Shasta County |
|---|---|---|
| Personal service | At least 15 days before the hearing | At least 20 days before the hearing |
| Substituted service | At least 25 days before the hearing | At least 30 days before the hearing |
Substituted service means leaving the claim with another adult at the defendant's home, or with the person in charge at their usual place of business, then mailing a second copy by first-class mail to the same address. The page says the documents must be in an envelope bearing the defendant's name.
Small claims limits, per the same page: $12,500 for a natural person, with no more than two claims over $2,500 anywhere in California in a calendar year, and $6,250 for corporations and other entities. Source: shasta.courts.ca.gov small claims page, checked October 2026.
If your hearing is less than 20 days away and the defendant hasn't been served, call us the day you file. Distance eats into that window fast.
Who serves civil papers in Shasta County
Shasta County has a court Marshal's Office, which is unusual in California. The court's Marshal page explains the history: before 1993 both the Sheriff and the Marshal served civil papers, and after the 1993 consolidation, "the service of all civil process was also given to the Marshal." The office works out of the Main Courthouse.
The court's civil page also notes that any person who is at least 18 and not a party to the action can serve, and that the Sheriff's Department (in practice the Marshal, after the 1993 consolidation) and private registered process serving businesses serve papers for a fee. So you have choices. A private process server works on your schedule, takes your Letter of Instruction and can make attempts at the times you know the person is home.
What to put in a Redding Service Request
Each missing detail can cost a trip, and every trip to Redding is a long one. Give us these:
- The papers. Upload up to 5 PDFs: summons, complaint, notice, subpoena or order, with any attachments that must be served together.
- Who to serve. Full name, or the exact business name. For a company, look up its agent for service of process on the Secretary of State's bizfile Online and include it. Our guide to serving a corporation covers the methods.
- Where. Street address with unit or space number, plus a workplace if you have one. A P.O. box can't be used for personal delivery.
- When and how. Best days and hours, a photo or description, vehicles, gate codes, dogs, a long driveway.
- Your deadline. The hearing date or last day for service.
Then get each update by email.
What changes in 2027 for distant addresses
Starting January 1, 2027, reasonable diligence before substituted service will be shown by attempting personal delivery on at least 3 occasions, on 3 different days at 3 different times (CCP § 415.20(b)(2)). For a city as far from Sacramento as Redding, three separate days of attempts is a real planning factor, so give us as much lead time as your case allows. This is general information, not legal advice.
