The city of Orange holds a courthouse that almost every Orange County family case passes through. Every divorce, custody fight, child support case and domestic violence petition in Orange County is heard at the Lamoreaux Justice Center, about 1.6 miles from the city's Census center point. A lot of the papers we serve in Orange start or end there.
We serve family law papers, restraining orders, summonses, small claims and subpoenas at Orange homes and businesses, managed from our Sacramento office. Send a Service Request with up to 5 PDFs, or email the documents to Service@ValproAttorneyServices.com.
The Lamoreaux Justice Center
The court's page for Lamoreaux gives these details, checked October 2026:
- Address: 341 The City Drive South, Orange, CA 92868-3205. Main line (657) 622-6878.
- Cases: juvenile, family law and domestic violence, for all Orange County cities and unincorporated areas.
- Also inside: a Self-Help Center, Family Court Services and the Office of the Family Law Facilitator.
- Family Law clerk: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Family Court Services: 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on weekdays, with the noon hour closed.
- Self-Help Center: Monday through Thursday until 4:00 p.m., Friday until 3:00 p.m.
The building is a full security facility. Everyone entering passes through weapons screening, hand-carried items are x-rayed, and cameras and recording devices aren't allowed in. A runner filing papers or picking up conformed copies goes through the same line as everyone else, so allow for it on a tight day.
Family Law Operations is on the 7th floor. Its mailing address on the court's e-filing page is P.O. Box 14170, Orange, California 92868-1570.
Where the rest of Orange's cases go
Orange County Superior Court assigns case types by building under its designation list, effective June 30, 2025. For the city of Orange:
| Case type | Building | Miles from Orange |
|---|---|---|
| Family law, domestic violence, juvenile | Lamoreaux Justice Center, Orange | 1.6 |
| Limited and unlimited civil, small claims, unlawful detainer, civil harassment | Central Justice Center, Santa Ana | 2.6 |
| Criminal and traffic | Central Justice Center, Santa Ana | 2.6 |
| Complex civil | Civil Complex Center, 751 W. Santa Ana Blvd., Santa Ana | 2.8 |
| Probate, mental health, elder and dependent adult abuse restraining orders | Costa Mesa Justice Complex, Costa Mesa | 7.2 |
Miles are straight-line distances from Orange's Census center point to the coordinates on each court page. Note the split in restraining orders: domestic violence goes to Lamoreaux, civil harassment to Central, and elder abuse to Costa Mesa. Check which one applies before anything is filed.
E-filing family law in Orange County
Orange County requires attorneys to e-file in family law, which not every county does. The court's family e-filing page cites Code of Civil Procedure § 1010.6, California Rules of Court rule 2.253(b)(2) and Local Rule 700.7. All documents filed by attorneys in family law cases must be filed electronically, except those on the court's exception list, unless the court excuses the party. Self-represented parties are exempt but encouraged to e-file.
As of December 15, 2025, these originals can't be filed electronically, per that page:
- bonds
- judgments
- out-of-state registration filings
- subpoenaed documents
- surrogacy filings
- trial exhibits, unless the court ordered them through its portal
- writs and abstracts
- certain adoption memos, and Special Immigrant Juvenile findings filed with a guardian ad litem application
Those go to the counter on paper. An e-filed document received before midnight on a court day counts as filed that day. One received at midnight or on a non-court day counts as filed on the next court day.
We handle both: eFiling for what can go electronically, and a runner to Lamoreaux for what can't. Our Orange County court filing page explains what to send.
Papers to serve in Orange?
Domestic violence restraining orders: timing and service
The court's domestic violence page sets out a schedule that affects how quickly papers need to move:
- Notice first. Before the judge hears the request, the other person must get at least four hours' notice. Without it, the declaration has to explain why.
- Hearings at 1:30 p.m. Domestic violence requests are heard at 1:30 p.m. every day.
- Same-day orders before 2:00 p.m. Complete papers submitted to the clerk's office before 2:00 p.m. are decided that day.
- Help on the 7th floor. The Domestic Violence Assistance Program is in Room 705. The court suggests arriving before 8:30 a.m. for help with the forms.
There is no filing fee for domestic violence forms. If the parties have children, temporary custody, visitation and support orders can be part of the restraining order.
Once a temporary order issues, the restrained person has to be served with it before the hearing. The court's page names two options: the sheriff in the county where that person lives or works, at no cost, or any adult who isn't protected by the order. The server fills out form DV-200, Proof of Personal Service.
If service doesn't happen in time, the court tells the protected person to come to the hearing anyway and say so. The judge can set a new date and issue new paperwork that extends the temporary orders, and that new paperwork is served along with the original set. When the order is close to expiring, a renewal request also has to be served by an adult who isn't protected by the order.
For a restraining order, send us the hearing date, a photo or description of the restrained person, every address you have, and any safety concerns. Tell us anything the server should avoid, such as times when the protected person is likely to be at the same address.
Chapman University and other campus addresses
Chapman University is in Orange, and student and staff addresses come up in civil and family cases. A university campus is private property with its own security, and buildings such as residence halls usually limit who can enter. Serving someone in a classroom or office building depends on that access, so it's rarely the best first choice.
A home address, an off-campus job or another regular place works better. If you know a schedule, such as when the person leaves home for class, include it. For records held by the university, a subpoena goes to the custodian of records the institution designates, and our post on serving a subpoena covers how that works.
Orange addresses and the communities around them
Orange's five Census ZIP Code areas are 92865, 92866, 92867, 92868 and 92869. Lamoreaux itself sits in 92868. The city's housing runs from older homes near the center to apartments and condos to hillside streets on the east side.
Two places near Orange are often mistaken for part of it:
- Villa Park is a separate incorporated city about 3.6 miles away. Its criminal and traffic cases also go to the Central Justice Center under the designation list.
- North Tustin is unincorporated, a Census-designated place about 4.2 miles away, sharing ZIP Codes 92705 and 92780 with Santa Ana and Tustin.
For a request, a full street address with a unit number, gate details and a time window does most of the work. If the person has moved, skip tracing can look for a current address before the next attempt.
Businesses in Orange
For a company with an office or store in Orange, look up its agent for service of process on bizfile Online, and send us the agent's name and address with the papers. If the agent is a commercial agent, the papers go to the agent's office. Our guide to serving corporations covers what to do if the agent can't be found.
Request, service and proof
Pick Rush or Standard on the Service Request. The updates come to you by email. When service is complete, the signed proof comes back to you to file. Our proof of service guide covers which form fits which document, including DV-200, and who can serve papers in California covers who may serve. For the rule changes that start January 1, 2027, see our AB 747 guide.
