If you're looking for a process server in Oakley, CA, Valpro Attorney Services delivers lawsuits, subpoenas, eviction notices, restraining order papers and small claims to Oakley residents and companies. Oakley is in East County, the part of Contra Costa County that runs out to the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta.
We work from Sacramento, about 43.9 miles from Oakley in a straight line, and we have no Oakley branch. You send everything online, then get the updates by email.
A city that keeps adding addresses
Oakley is growing quickly. The 2020 Census counted 43,357 residents, and the Census Bureau's estimate for July 1, 2025 is 47,583. That's about 4,200 more people, an increase of nearly 10% in five years.
Growth matters for service in a practical way. A newly built street or a new phase of homes may not show up correctly in every map app, and a newly occupied house may not yet have a visible number. If the address is on a newer street, send a cross street or the name of the development, and a photo of the house if you have one. It can save a wasted trip.
Where Oakley cases are filed
Oakley has no courthouse. Its cases split between two buildings, and the deciding factor is the type of case.
| Oakley matter | Where it's filed | Straight-line distance from central Oakley |
|---|---|---|
| Small claims | Richard E. Arnason Justice Center, 1000 Center Drive, Pittsburg | About 10.8 miles |
| Unlawful detainer | Arnason Justice Center, Pittsburg | About 10.8 miles |
| Civil, limited or unlimited | Wakefield Taylor Courthouse, 725 Court St, Martinez | About 24 miles |
| Probate, guardianship, conservatorship | Wakefield Taylor, Martinez | About 24 miles |
| Family law, including DVROs | Spinetta Family Law Center, 751 Pine St, Martinez, with an East County DVRO exception | About 23 miles |
| Juvenile | Walnut Creek Juvenile and Traffic Center only | Farther west |
From the Contra Costa County Superior Court's where-to-file and courthouse pages, read in October 2026. Distances are straight-line estimates.
For most Oakley landlords and small claims filers, Pittsburg is the courthouse. For lawsuits, estates and family cases, the papers go to Martinez, roughly twice as far.
Evictions and small claims in Pittsburg
The Arnason Justice Center is East County's courthouse. The court lists Oakley among the nine communities it serves, and its where-to-file table puts Oakley's ZIP Code, 94561, in the Pittsburg row. An Oakley eviction and an Oakley small claims case are both filed and heard there.
Eviction hearings for East County run in Department 54, which has its own remote-appearance link on the court's landlord-tenant page. Hearings are held in person unless the court approves a remote appearance under its rules.
For an Oakley eviction, the server works from what you send. Include:
- The papers: the notice, the summons and complaint, and any earlier proof, up to 5 PDFs.
- Every adult occupant, spelled as on the lease or the notice.
- How to find the house: the street, the cross street, and the development name on a newer street.
- Whether we file too. The complaint can go to the Pittsburg window or through e-filing as part of this job.
An Oakley resident suing on their own behalf can ask for up to $12,500 in small claims; an Oakley company that's incorporated or an LLC is capped at $6,250, according to the court's small claims page. Once filed, the claim must reach the other side through someone other than the claimant, which our guide on who can serve papers in California explains.
Martinez for everything else
Any other Oakley civil case goes to Wakefield Taylor in Martinez, about 24 miles away. So do Oakley estates, guardianships and conservatorships. Family law papers go to the Spinetta center, also in Martinez.
Attorneys e-file most of this. Under Local Rule 2.87, e-filing has been mandatory for represented parties in civil, unlawful detainer, small claims and family law cases since July 5, 2022. Self-represented filers can use the counter, the drop box or the mail. At Wakefield Taylor, the drop box keeps that day's filing date until 5:00 p.m. We take either route and send back endorsed copies; the Contra Costa County court filings page lists the documents we need.
Restraining orders for Oakley residents
The default for an Oakley protective order is Martinez: the court sends family law filings, DVROs among them, to the Spinetta center. The where-to-file page then carves out East County. If the Oakley petitioner shares no open case, no children and no marriage with the other person, the papers are handed in at Pittsburg's Domestic Violence window instead, about 11 miles from home rather than 23.
Serving the restrained person is the next step. Tell us the hearing date, and send a photo, a vehicle description and any work hours you know. Our proof of service guide explains what the proof needs to show.
Papers to serve in Oakley?
ZIP Code 94561 and Knightsen
The Census matches one ZIP Code area, 94561, to Oakley, and all of Oakley's land lies within it. Oakley makes up about 92% of that area's land. The rest is a mix:
- Knightsen, an unincorporated Census-designated place, about 3%.
- Land outside any city or Census-designated place, about 5%.
- Antioch, under 1%.
These figures come from the Census Bureau's 2020 ZCTA to place relationship file. ZIP Code areas approximate postal ZIP Codes, so a "94561" address isn't always inside Oakley city limits. For small claims and evictions it doesn't change the courthouse: the court's table lists Knightsen, under its own ZIP Code 94548, in the same Pittsburg row as Oakley.
The Delta edge
Part of Oakley reaches into the Delta. The East Bay Regional Park District's Big Break Regional Shoreline, at 69 Big Break Road in Oakley, is part of what the park district calls the 1,150-square-mile Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta.
Past the edge of town, addresses spread out, and some sit on long private drives or behind gates. Our Standard and Rush timelines still apply, but remote areas are subject to different timelines. On a rural Service Request, include directions from the nearest main road, a gate code, and a description of the house or a photo.
Oakley estates and guardianships
A probate case for an Oakley estate is filed and heard in Martinez, at Wakefield Taylor, under the court's where-to-file page. Guardianships and conservatorships follow the same path. From Oakley that's a longer run than the Pittsburg courthouse most local filers know, so build the travel into a deadline. When heirs or family members in Oakley need papers delivered, list them on the Service Request with the petition and the hearing date.
Neighbors in other counties
Two of Oakley's nearest towns belong to different courts. Isleton, about 12.4 miles away, is in Sacramento County, and Rio Vista, about 12.5 miles away, is in Solano County. Each county runs its own superior court. Which court an Oakley-related case belongs in is a venue question for you or your attorney, and we serve in all three counties. See the Sacramento County and Solano County pages.
Oakley commuters
The end of the BART line is next door. BART's Antioch station, at 1600 Slatten Ranch Road in Antioch, is the terminal of the line serving northern and eastern Contra Costa County. An Oakley resident who rides BART to a job farther west may leave early and get home late.
That shapes the attempts. Tell us what you know about the person's schedule, give a work address if there is one, and add a car and plate. For someone with a long commute, an early-evening or weekend attempt at home can work better than a weekday afternoon.
Serving an Oakley business
Corporations and LLCs are usually served through their registered agent. Search the business on the Secretary of State's bizfile Online, copy the agent's name and address, and put both on the request. Store and site staff in Oakley generally aren't authorized to take legal papers for their employer. When the agent turns out to be a commercial firm in another city, that's where we serve. Each method is laid out on our serving corporations page.
Sending Oakley papers
- Begin a Service Request with the papers as PDFs, 5 at most.
- Spell out who gets served, matching the caption.
- List the Oakley address, plus cross streets for newer neighborhoods.
- Select Rush or Standard, and say if the filing goes to Pittsburg or Martinez.
Questions go to 855-582-5776 or Service@ValproAttorneyServices.com. From January 1, 2027, AB 747 adds steps to substituted service, covered in our AB 747 guide. We make no guarantees for service. When someone has moved out of Oakley, skip tracing can turn up a newer address, and we can serve them there, including anywhere in Sacramento County.
