Agoura Hills is one ZIP Code, 91301, but that ZIP Code is mostly not Agoura Hills. The Census Bureau's 2020 files show the city covering about 23.5% of 91301's land. Calabasas takes about 2.5%, and the remaining 74% is unincorporated Los Angeles County, home to small communities the court's locator lists by name: Agoura, Cornell, Malibu Junction, Malibu Lake and Seminole Hot Springs.
The court treats most of those communities like the city, but not all of them. And next door, across the county line, Oak Park belongs to Ventura County and a different court altogether. This page sorts out which courthouse takes each kind of case, where the exceptions are, and what helps a server finish an Agoura Hills job. Agoura Hills requests are handled from our Sacramento office, about 344 miles to the north.
Agoura Hills cases by courthouse
We ran 91301 through the court's filing court locator in October 2026. For the Agoura Hills row, and for Agoura, Calabasas and Cornell, it returned:

So an Agoura Hills case is split between two San Fernando Valley districts under Local Rule 2.2. Chatsworth is a North Valley District courthouse, and Van Nuys Courthouse East is in the Northwest District. Chatsworth is the closer of the two and takes more Agoura Hills case types, including evictions.
That eviction routing is worth noticing. Westlake Village, 3.2 miles away, sends its limited eviction cases to Van Nuys East. Agoura Hills sends them to Chatsworth. If you're copying a template from a Westlake Village case, change the courthouse.
The 91301 communities that route differently
Three of the locator's 91301 rows don't match the city:
- Malibu Junction and Seminole Hot Springs follow the Agoura Hills pattern except for small claims, which go to the Beverly Hills Courthouse, 9355 Burton Way, about 21.6 miles away.
- Malibu Lake is different across the board. The locator lists both Beverly Hills and Santa Monica for unlimited civil, sends family law to Stanley Mosk, restraining orders to the Santa Monica Courthouse, 1725 Main Street, and small claims to Beverly Hills. Evictions and collections still go to Chatsworth.
The explanation is in Local Rule 2.3(a)(1)(D). It moves family law for 91301 and several nearby ZIP Codes from the Northwest District to the North Valley District, but it expressly doesn't apply to the parts of 91301 and 91302 that fall in the West District. Malibu Lake's row reflects that West District piece.
For those West District rows, the counters are different too. The Santa Monica Courthouse directory lists its civil clerk in Room 102, (310) 255-1963, and family law and temporary restraining orders in Room 225 on the second floor, (310) 255-1962. The Beverly Hills Courthouse gives a separate small claims line, (310) 281-2496, and notes a charge for courthouse parking.
In practice: if the address is inside Agoura Hills city limits, use the table above. If it's an unincorporated 91301 address, find the community name on the deed or tax bill, then run that row in the locator.
Oak Park and the Ventura County line
Oak Park is the community people most often mix up with Agoura Hills. The Census Bureau lists Oak Park as a census-designated place in Ventura County, and its ZIP Code area, 91377, is entirely in Ventura County, with Oak Park covering about 98% of that ZIP Code's land. Agoura Hills' own ZIP Code, 91301, is entirely in Los Angeles County.
That makes the county question easier than it is in Westlake Village, where the ZIP Codes themselves straddle the line. A 91301 address is a Los Angeles County address. A 91377 address is Ventura County, and any case that belongs there goes to the Ventura County Superior Court. Serving across the line is ordinary. A Los Angeles summons can be served on an Oak Park resident at home, and a Ventura summons on someone who works in Agoura Hills.
Evictions and collections at Chatsworth
Chatsworth handles Agoura Hills evictions. The court's directory lists Room 1200 on the first floor for limited unlawful detainer cases, (818) 407-2200, open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It also sets a narrow window for urgent requests: eviction ex parte applications are filed between 8:15 and 8:30 a.m. and heard at 8:30 a.m., Monday through Friday. Eviction trials and motions are heard Mondays and Wednesdays at 8:30 a.m.
A tenant who is handed an eviction summons has 10 court days to file an answer, according to the Judicial Council's self-help site. If the papers are left with another adult and mailed, the tenant gets 10 calendar days plus 10 court days from the mailing.
Chatsworth is also one of the court's two countywide hubs for limited collection cases, $35,000 or less. Motions in those cases are reserved through the court's online reservation system for Department F43. Represented parties must e-file civil documents under Local Rule 3.4 unless the court exempts them.
Papers to serve in Agoura Hills?
Family law and restraining orders
Divorces, custody cases and restraining orders from Agoura Hills go to Chatsworth under Local Rule 2.3(a)(1)(D). The directory lists the family law clerk in Room 1200 at (213) 633-6363, open from 8:00 a.m., earlier than the other windows.
The petitioner can't personally serve the family law papers. A non-party adult serves them, and the proof is form FL-115 for a summons and petition. A restraining order has to reach the restrained person before the hearing, proved on DV-200 or CH-200. Send a photo, a vehicle description, a work address and the hours the person keeps.
Civil suits and small claims at Van Nuys East
Unlimited civil cases from Agoura Hills go to Van Nuys Courthouse East, 18.3 miles away. Its Civil Unlimited clerk is in Room 107 on the first floor, (818) 901-4600. Many unlimited cases may instead be filed downtown at Stanley Mosk under Local Rule 2.3(a)(1)(B). Personal injury cases may not: Local Rule 2.3(a)(1)(A) sends them to the district where the incident arose, which for an Agoura Hills street is the Northwest District.
Every new civil case also needs form LACIV 109, the Statement of Location, served with the summons. Include it in your upload.
Small claims from the city go to Van Nuys East as well, where the directory lists the small claims clerk at (818) 901-4600 with weekday clerk hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Individuals can claim up to $12,500, and the person suing can't serve the claim. Under CCP § 116.340, a defendant who lives in Los Angeles County must be served at least 15 days before the hearing, and a defendant living outside the county, in Oak Park or Thousand Oaks for example, at least 20 days.
Calabasas addresses inside 91301
Calabasas covers about 2.5% of 91301's land, and the locator gives it a row under that ZIP Code. The Calabasas row routes exactly like Agoura Hills: evictions, collections and family cases to Chatsworth, unlimited civil and small claims to Van Nuys East. The City of Calabasas is a separate government, though, with its own city hall and clerk. If the papers name a 91301 address on the Calabasas side, tell us, and see our Calabasas page.
Probate from Agoura Hills
Probate for an Agoura Hills estate is filed at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse downtown, about 30 miles away, and so is any limited civil case that isn't an eviction or a collection. The notices and citations in a probate case still have to reach people at their own addresses, which may be in Agoura Hills, Oak Park or anywhere else. Mark on the request which documents need filing first and which go straight to the server, and give us the hearing date so the timing works.
The 2027 service rules
AB 747 takes effect on January 1, 2027. Under the amended CCP § 415.20(b)(2), good-faith attempts to deliver the summons personally, made on at least three occasions on three different days and at three different times, show the reasonable diligence needed before substituted service. Posting an eviction summons with a court order stays under CCP § 415.45. In consumer debt cases, at least one attempt has to be made at the debtor's home when that address is known. Gates, private roads and hard-to-find homes
If an Agoura Hills or unincorporated 91301 address is on a private road, behind a gate or up a shared driveway, say so on the request. A server can't climb a locked gate, and an address that a map app can't find costs an attempt. For homes well off the paved public roads, remote areas are subject to different timelines.
What helps:
- Gate codes or a contact who can let the server onto a private road.
- A description of the house, especially where several homes share one driveway.
- A second address, such as a workplace, in case the home can't be reached.
- The community name for unincorporated addresses, so the papers and the locator row match.
Serving the City of Agoura Hills
Agoura Hills City Hall is at 30001 Ladyface Court, 91301. When the city is the defendant, CCP § 416.50 sends the summons to the clerk, secretary, president, presiding officer or other head of its governing body, normally through the City Clerk. A suit for money against the city usually needs a claim presented to the city first. For an unincorporated 91301 address, the local government is the County of Los Angeles, not the city.
